Extant 1.06 Review: “Nightmares”

extant6

I believe that instead of having this episode of Extant named “Nightmares,” it could instead be named “Creepy Circle Symbol” because that’s basically what this episode was about. We saw it in Ethan’s dream and his picture. We saw it in Kryger’s mission. The image kept repeating over and let me tell you, it was never good. The episode was actually named this because Ethan the android had his first nightmare which was ‘unprecedented.’ While John wants to immediately rush him off to the lab, Molly convinces him to stay home until the morning so Ethan sees that they’re just a happy family. The more the series goes on, the more I get that she does want this idea of a perfect unit and that’s why she wants this so badly. Why? After having a pseudo-pregnancy she realizes now more than ever how important it is to be a family.

All in all, I felt that this episode was doing a lot of prep work for next week’s event. Molly seems to be pressuring Sam to work with her and tell her about the pregnancy, which she is lying about now. She was pushing all of Sam’s buttons about her brother in this episode. The head of security took Kryger this week in a kidnapping or as a tool against Molly for next week. Spark’s is getting more power-crazy by the episode, which in this episode actually interacting with the alien fetus & not ending the current Seraphim mission. Who knows what he’ll do next week? Ethan is getting literally smarter by the episode. This week his programming was developed enough to allow him to dream. What will he be able to do next week? Also, he was a genius when it came to decrypting the video file Molly had when nobody else could. Finally, they mentioned how strong the baby is getting. This was shown by “infecting” one of the worker’s on the case. If it was this well developed at such a young, the viewer could imagine what it could do when grown. That may happen in the upcoming weeks! Like I said, a lot of the stuff tonight just seemed to build up to bigger events coming up, like Jenga blocks but you haven’t quite reached the top yet.

At this point, I’m looking forward to next week’s super-sized event. It’s not a bad show. It just took a while to develop the characters and plots. I don’t understand how they’re going to have thirteen episodes of the series but we as the viewers will have to wait and see.
