It seems like Terry Crews has been all over the place lately. And we here at TVOvermind are definitely not complaining about that. The former football player turned actor can be seen every Sunday night making us laugh opposite Andy Samberg on the hilarious sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine. You may also recognize the actor from his appearances in popular movies, including Bridesmaids, The Expendables, Draft Day, and Get Smart. Crews recently even became the new host of the syndicated game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
As if he was not busy enough, Crews has been tapped to host the new FOX reality show World’s Funniest Fails. The show will feature epic fails from some classic videos found on the internet. The series will premiere this Friday, Jan 16, at 8 p.m. on FOX. Crews took some time out of his busy schedule to talk with TVOvermind about his new show.
TVOvermind: Hello, Terry. I’m a fellow Michigander, so I’m really excited to speak with you today.
All right!
TVO: We are interested in knowing how you got approached to host World’s Funniest Fails.
You know, it was funny, because I was headed into a holiday and I was working in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and I get this call from my agent and they’re like, man, there’s this show that’s unbelievable. It’s called World’s Funniest Fails. I said to be a part of this every week with the whole of America, I can’t turn it down. I said we got to make time for this show to happen and I said you got me. You had me at hello.
TVO: Could you explain the premise of the show for our readers.
What they basically do is they watch clips on YouTube of all this failure stuff and I’m like, “Holy cow.” My wife and kids we sit there and watch this stuff all day. You get caught in a rabbit hole.
TVO: I think we have all been there.
Once you play one video, you just keep going. There are times that I’ve missed appointments because I can’t stop because you go from one to the other, and my family, we crack up.
TVO: Tell us a little bit more about your family.
My kids, the 16 year old in my house, she’s my namesake. Her name is Tara. She’s the one that pulls me to the side and always say, “Dad, you got to watch this. Look what happens to this guy.” We crack up. I’m in tears and I said I have to do this because it’s a family show, and I just remembered having the good family time that me and my wife all the way down to the little ones. My son is nine, and we’re crying laughing and he’s like, “Play it again; play it again.”
TVO: That’s too funny! And can you tell us some of the celebrity panelists that we’ll get to see this season?
You know it’s funny, because we got Russell Peters.
TVO: He is hilarious.
Tone Bell was another guy that cracks me up. I promise you they were the funniest, funniest guys ever, and we had a ball.
TVO: Any other big name comedians?
A lot of new comedians, but I promise you will not be disappointed.
TVO: Based on the the clips, we think we will be far from disappointed. Do you watch the videos with the panel?
It’s really like sitting around with friends and watching it and we pick it apart. We basically stopped the video halfway through it and show you things you may have missed. That’s the best part about this thing.
TVO: Will some of these videos have gone viral already?
These are videos that you’ve probably seen before, but now you get to see it in a whole new way and with a whole new comedic bend.
Be sure to check out World’s Funniest Fails premiering this Friday, January 16th at 8 PM on FOX. It will be followed by a brand new episode of Glee.
