After the New York Times shone a light on the full extent of what Harvey Weinstein had been up to for years and years, a lot of women spoke out about what had happened to them. The producer Heather Ross is one such woman. However, it is interesting to note that her particular tale had a rather unusual but nonetheless heartening conclusion because of her friend, Carrie Fisher, who most people should still remember as Princess Leia Organa from the Star Wars movies.
In short, Ross was still starting out in 2000. However, she had managed to befriend some people in the entertainment industries, which happened to include Fisher. At one point in time, Ross had a lunch meeting with a producer to see if she could become involved with his new project. She had no concerns about meeting said individual in person. In part, this was because their interaction over the Internet had been nothing but professional in nature. However, it should also be noted that Ross thought that she wouldn’t be targeted because she was overweight.
Unfortunately, Ross’s thoughts on the matter turned out to be wrong. No more than a short while after she had been picked up, the producer pulled over and then pinned her. Ross was fortunate in that she managed to fight him off before getting out of his car, but he made it very clear that he intended to make sure that she would never get the chance to make a movie. The whole incident was so shameful and so shocking that Ross remained silent about the matter for some time, but in the end, she was able to speak about what had happened to her with her friend Fisher. Naturally, Fisher was very concerned about Ross’s well-being, but what is most interesting is what happened next.
How Did Carrier Fisher Respond to What Happened to Heather Ross?
Ross states that Fisher contacted her a few weeks after Ross had confided in her. It turned out that Fisher had paid a visit to the producer at his office, where she presented him with a box that had been wrapped with a white box. Inside the box was a cow tongue that had been purchased from a deli, which seems a little odd right up until the point that one learns that Fisher promised the producer that if he ever sexually assaulted either Ross or another woman ever again, she would present him with a second, smaller box containing something of his. Suffice to say that it was not exactly the most subtle of statements, but it was certainly a powerful one, particularly considering how stories of this kind tend to go.
Further Considerations
Regardless, the fact that Fisher was willing to stand up for her friend in so fierce a manner is all the more reason that she will be missed. Unfortunately, she passed away in late December of 2016 because of cardiac arrest that happened when she was on a commercial flight, which was made even worse when her mother Debbie Reynolds suffered a stroke the day after her death. Thousands and thousands of fans paid tribute to her after her passing, which was followed by her final film Star Wars: The Last Jedi being dedicated to her.
