Netflix struck gold once again this summer with the release of the smash hit show GLOW. Set in the 80s, GLOW centers around the female wrestling industry, as seen through the life of Ruth Wilder, a frustrated actress who somehow finds herself body-slamming her way to success. The dramedy quickly became a fan favorite, introducing a host of memorable characters in the form of female wrestlers, each with their own fascinating stories. With Netflix recently renewing the show for a second season, anticipation is already building for what’s to come. As a seasoned ScreenRant.com writer and avid GLOW fan, I’ve come up with 5 bold predictions for season 2 that I’m confident will come true.
1. Ruth and Debbie’s friendship will hit rock bottom before it can heal.
Ruth and Debbie’s friendship is currently hanging by a thread. Ruth not only sabotaged her own relationship with Debbie but also destroyed Debbie’s marriage. That’s a lot to forgive, and I suspect it’ll take Debbie at least two-thirds of the season before she can even begin to consider reconciling with Ruth. But I have faith that it’s going to happen, and even if it takes until the final episode of season 2, it’ll be worth the wait.
2. Liberty Belle will not be returning to the ring.
As entertaining as it was to watch Liberty Belle face off against Zoya, I believe that the rift between Ruth and Debbie is too deep for this rivalry to continue. However, I do think that Liberty Belle will return to wrestling, albeit as a different character. I trust the show’s writers to get creative with new wrestler personas; they’ve done an excellent job so far.
3. Sam and Justine’s relationship will take a turn for the bizarre.
In the season finale, it was revealed that Justine is actually Sam’s daughter. The twist was both shocking and unsettling, leaving us all feeling uneasy about this character dynamic. After the events of the first season, I predict that Sam and Justine will attempt to mend their relationship, but it will be a long, painful, and strange journey. Justine will need to overcome her fatherly infatuation, while Sam must come to terms with the fact that he kissed his own daughter.
4. Cherry will accept the cop show offer, but it won’t go as planned.
This doesn’t mean we’ll be saying goodbye to Cherry. She’ll pursue her dream of becoming a star, but I predict the cop show will be a flop. After leaving her GLOW teammates behind, Cherry will have to slowly work her way back into their good graces when the cop show fails to even air an episode. It’ll be a tough blow for Cherry, but it will ultimately lead to growth for her character.
5. New wrestlers will join the GLOW roster.
As the show gains popularity, it’s only natural that new wrestlers will be added to the mix. This is somewhat of a given, but I can’t help but envision a rivalry brewing between the newcomers and the veterans. We might even get a chance to see this conflict play out in the ring, complete with full costumes, tag-team action, or even elimination-style matches.
