In seven seasons of Duck Dynasty, there are bound to be some duds. This episode was one of those duds.
I love Duck Dynasty, and the guys are always a good time, but some stories just aren’t as fun as others. This week, Jep and Jessica bought a fixer upper and are moving into Willie and Jase’s neighborhood. The fixer upper might be more fixer than upper. Jep’s vision for an 80 inch TV and chicken coop doesn’t really fit with everything else. So Jep and the guys decide to renovate the chicken coop. Meanwhile, Jase and Si take Jase’s kids “jug fishing.” Yeah, it’s as redneck as it sounds.
On occasion, Duck Dynasty has an episode that doesn’t really do it for me. This episode was still well-produced, and they certainly made the story work, but it just wasn’t as funny as the show can be. The whole renovation of the chicken coop was slightly amusing (mainly because Jep says the funniest things), but all in all, it was kind of lame.
The story with Jase and his kids was ADORABLE, though. Jase already has the cutest kids, and this was just what I like to call a “showcase of cute.” I actually found the bottle fishing technique very interesting, and it helped that Jase’s cute kids were along. There was no real reason for Si to be there except to overdose on grape soda, but I kind of thought that was funny, too! There were lots of mediocre jokes about Si’s craziness and being “sloopy” (soda-loopy).
This episode, in a positive light, was telling in the ways of marriage. As a newlywed myself, I often find myself in the same predicaments as Jep Robertson found himself in this week. When moving to a new house, or in with a partner, you can often lose parts of your personality in the transition. While this episode didn’t have the entertainment value of other episodes, there was a lot to be said for the lessons you can learn. Marriage is about compromise. Make memories with your kids. Don’t drink expired grape soda. All of these things can help you in your life, and that’s one thing that Duck Dynasty does better than anyone. It relates.
As always, here are a few of my favorite quotes from the episode:
“I love kids, and I got cheerios”- Si
“There’s too much poop around here Jep”- Willie (I’m a sucker for a good poop joke)
“Man-coop. Guess that’d be a ‘moop”- Willie
“Then I married Voldemort. A really, really hot Voldemort”- Jep
Poop and chicken jokes aside, this Duck Dynasty episode left a little to be desired, but it didn’t tarnish my love for the show. All in all, there is much worse television out there.
