As you can imagine there have been a number of articles written about his life and numerous tributes made by celebrities, fans, and family all around the world. Stephen Colbert took a moment on The Late Show to talk about one of the greatest insult comedians of the past 50 years.
Colbert went into a story about the time he got a chance to meet Rickles. While Colbert said he didn’t personally know Don Rickles, his story is as you would imagine, funny. Colbert met Rickles backstage at the Emmys where they were both up for an award for best host of a variety show. Of the two, Rickles was the guy that won. Colbert then went over to congratulate him when Rickles was doing photos backstage with his Emmy.
The Colbert Report had just won for the writing category. Rickles went up to Colbert, hugged him and told Colbert that he was “good.” Colbert than said he felt like “a made man.”
