Peter goes deeper and deeper into the mystery of Emma’s death without realizing just how deep and how dark the mystery goes. The deeper the mystery, the more pieces begin falling into place on this week’s Dig.
Peter has no idea that the American ambassador is complicit in whatever is going on with the investigation, and she made Peter look like a fool just to cover her tracks. Everywhere he looks he is haunted by Emma’s image, so he decides to go back to the beginning at Emma’s apartment. It turns out she was investigating something through the soil at the dig site through a friend in Science and Antiquities, uncovering a clue in the uncovered substance of a cow. Peter retraces Emma’s steps and ends up at the Jerusalem Heritage Center where the audience gets a clue that this conspiracy may have something to do with the Ark of the Covenant. Tired of being dragged around with only half-information, Cohen gets into it with Peter before they meet a member of the Israeli Secret Police telling them to stop asking questions.
Even though Peter is finally starting to make some headway with the investigation, his personal demons threaten to upend his entire life. His estranged wife no longer wishes to speak to him, he has nightmares of Emma after sleeping with Lynn, and all of this can be used against him by those who want him to stop asking questions.
The mystery continues to deepen as Yusef continues to keep himself busy finding the last of the 12 stones. After pretending to be an antiquities collector and brutally killing a man he was midway through getting it on with, he breaks into a secure collection to steal the last stone. What he, nor his bosses, count on is the fact that the stone is a fake.
Elsewhere on a ship to Croatia, Avram and the calf he’s named Red are not having a pleasant journey. He has no money left to feed himself, and cannot give up the calf considering how important it is to the cause. Desperate and hungry, the boy tries to force someone to give him food, but luck is on his side with the kindness of a stranger.
Of course, back in the land of the eternally creepy, a newly Bar Mitzfahed Josh 2.0 is allowed to go into town and experience life like a real boy (pun not intentional, but totally accurate). After knowing the details of the first Josh’s death, Debbie decides to make a call to her brother to get help. Because Debbie has a history of addiction, though, her pleas are met with rejection, and she knocks out Faye and runs to the police. Instead of helping her, they call in Rabbi Billingham, and creepy Josh 2.0 says he knew Debbie would fail the test.
Did you get all the pieces of the unraveling puzzle?
