Dexter 5.11 “Hop a Freighter” Recap

Dexter 5.11 “Hop a Freighter” RecapDeb tells Dexter that Quinn lied to her about her brother, and then tells him all about how Quinn thought that Dexter was somehow connected to Rita’s death. They both agree that that’s crazy. Then she discusses the vigilante with him. “He’s risking his life, he’s putting everything on the line to make what happened to her right,” she says.

Dexter and Lumen go shopping, and they pick out a small pocket knife for her. Dexter tells her that Quinn wants him, not her, and suggests that she leave, at least until he deals with the situation. She refuses.

At the station, Deb, Quinn and Batista discuss Jordan Chase, and realize that these men have been doing this for years. Batista gets a call and has to leave the room, and Quinn takes the chance to tell her that he’s sorry for doing dumb things, but that he loves her. “You made me take a hard look at myself, and it’s made me a better person I think,” he tells her. Batista returns and says that Chase denied their request for an interview and just booked a tour and looks to be taking off.

Dexter sits outside of his house and sees that only one truck remains on his street. He noticed Quinn arriving, so he jumps out of his car and approaches the van. Liddy gets him with a stun gun as he opens the door and then throws him in the back and takes off. Lumen is alone when she receives a call from Emily Birch who says she got a call from Chase and needs her help. Lumen tells her she’ll be over, and then it’s revealed that Chase is sitting right in Emily’s living room.

Dexter wakes up and realizes where he is, and Liddy introduces himself. He parks the van and calls Quinn, demanding that he comes to meet him. Liddy gets into the back of the truck and shows Dexter a few seconds of the video he’s recorded, and tells him that it’s only a tiny bit of what he’s recorded. He then demands that Dexter give a full confession, and promises that Lumen will walk free if he does. He begins to film Dexter and is knocked to the ground. Dexter wrestles on top of him and is able to stab and kill him. Quinn arrives, but the van is locked and he can’t see anything. Before he walks away, a drop of Liddy’s blood leaks out and falls on his shoe. As soon as he’s gone, Dexter grabs his phone and the laptop with the footage of him and Lumen and exits the van. He throws the laptop into the water and heads to Lumen.

LaGuerta tells Deb that her court order for Chase was denied because she didn’t come to her about it. They have a brief argument before LaGuerta gives her the court order – from a differetn judge who owed her a favor. Now she can keep Chase from leaving the city – if she can find him first.

Lumen arrives at Emily’s, and Emily says she needs Dexter too. Lumen turns around and sees Chase. Uh oh. Dexter returns to his apartment to find it empty. At Emily’s, Chase is asking Lumen what Dexter is doing that’s so important. Lumen says she doesn’t know. Chase screams at Emily to shut up and tells her this is her fault. Lumen tries to run and is knocked down by Chase, who says he can’t leave any witnesses. He stabs and kills Emily as Lumen tries to scramble away.

Deb gets to the airport with her court order preventing Chase from leaving Miami. There’s one problem, though: he isn’t there and was scheduled to leave an hour prior.

As Dexter arrives at Emily’s, it’s too late. Emily is dead, and there is blood all over the ground from a scuffle. He can see that the blood doesn’t only belong to Emily, and that Lumen was able to put up a fight and run away.

‘Is this the only kind of love I’ll ever find; the kind that ends in blood?’

We’ll find out how it ends next week when the season finale of Dexter airs. I can’t wait.
