Designated Survivor Season 2: What We’re Expecting

Designated Survivor

Fans of the hit TV series “24” are probably already watching “Designated Survivor” on ABC ever since the first episode on September 21, 2016. The star of “24” is also starring in Designated Survivor and, although he’s not playing Jack Bauer this time around; the very talented Kiefer Sutherland is playing the President of the United States. OK, he wasn’t exactly voted into office and may have seemed somewhat ill-equipped to handle it in the beginning but not for long.

He has really shown his true colors and how good he can be at being the POTUS throughout the first season. Interestingly enough, it’s all about the U.S. but is shot in Toronto. The cast includes, in addition to Kiefer Sutherland who plays President Tom Kirkman, Natascha McElhone plays his wife Alexandra, along with Maggie Q as FBI agent Hannah Wells, LaMonica Garrett as Secret Service agent Mike Ritter, Adan Canto as White House Deputy Chief of Staff Aaron Shore, Kal Penn as speechwriter Seth Wright, Italia Ricci as Special Advisor Emily Rhodes, Mckenna Grace as Tom’s adorable young daughter Penny Kirkman, and Tanner Buchanan as Leo Kirkman, Tom’s teenage son.

What’s Designated Survivor All About?

If you’re one of the few American TV viewers who hasn’t actually seen any of the episodes of the first season of Designated Survivor, here’s a quick recap. A designated survivor is part of the U.S. government’s contingency plan in the event of a catastrophe that causes a total loss of leadership. So, on the night that the State of the Union is being held, a massive explosion kills the President, as well as everybody in the line of succession. The only one who isn’t killed is Thomas Kirkman, who is the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and he has been named as the designated survivor. So, he’s sworn in as the POTUS immediately and really ends up with his hands’ full thanks to traitors, terrorists, and so much more.

New Characters & New Looks

Season 2 will premiere on September 27, 2017, and here are a few predictions for what is to come. For starters, a few new characters will be introduced as President Kirkman’s presidency is one year in. The country has been moving forward as everybody recovers from the tragic event at the Capitol. Season 2 picks up as the efforts to rebuild are completed. Everybody in the government is still hard at work. Aaron is back in the Oval Office where he has always belonged. Emily is still performing her important role as Chief of Staff and Seth seems to be going through some kind of season 2 phase and even looks different from season 1 with his newly grown beard.

 Future Happenings

  1. Agent Hannah Wells will get herself a very sexy new partner. It may look at first like the two are strictly business but it’ll make us wonder how long it will be before they end up naked together. We’ll probably have to wait to see how that develops. So for the time being, their joint investigations may be the only things to heat up. The two will be really good together at what they do and it would appear that they may be onto something.
  2. A Russian airliner will be hijacked by Ukrainian nationalists but they may not be what they appear to be.
  3. Someone in Kirkman’s administration may be considering leaving.4. Someone that Tom Kirkman really cares about will die.
  4. Someone that Tom Kirkman really cares about will die.

Whatever season 2 brings, it’s sure to be intriguing and exceptionally exciting, so be sure to tune in to ABC on Wednesday, September 27th at 10 pm/9 pm central and find out what the future holds for Designated Survivor.
