Rob Liefeld is a rather controversial figure in the comic book industry. He was most prominent in the 1990s as both a comic book writer and a comic book artist, which resulted in the creation of characters such as Cable and Deadpool. However, Liefeld has received a lot of criticism over the course of his career from people who see his work as being representative of everything that was wrong with comic books in the 1990s, which wasn’t helped by the accusations of bad anatomy as well as questionable but often hilarious-looking character designs. Regardless, whether people like Liefeld or not, there can be no doubt about the extent of his influence on not just DC and Marvel but also on the comic book industry as a whole.
What Is Rob Liefeld Asking For?
Recently, Liefeld stated that he would be interested in seeing a cut of Justice League done by the original director Zack Snyder. He is not alone in this, seeing as how there are a lot of other people who have voiced similar intentions. However, it remains to be seen whether their expressions of interest will produce a meaningful response from DC and Warner Bros.
For those who are unfamiliar with what happened, Snyder was the original director of Justice League. However, he departed from the production in May of 2017, which happened because of the tragic death of his daughter. As a result, Joss Whedon was brought in to finish making the film, which involved the shooting of new scenes as well as a number of other major changes. Unfortunately, those changes seemed to have made for a rather jarring viewing experience because of the two directors’ differing visions, which was something that was noted by both critics and consumers. Suffice to say that this did not help Justice League, not least because it was often cited as being one of its main problems.
Theoretically, a cut of Justice League done by Snyder could solve this problem by ensuring that there was one person at the head of the project as opposed to two different people working at different times. Furthermore, even if that wasn’t the case, it would still be interesting to see how Snyder would have handled the movie because of how he and Whedon are reputed to differ when it comes to their film-making.
Will This Happen?
With that said, the chances of seeing a Snyder cut of Justice League seem like they would be rather low. For starters, there is no Snyder version of the movie because the project was never completed during his time, meaning that it would take an enormous amount of time, money, and other resources to make such a cut. Furthermore, the release of a Snyder cut would seem like an admission on the part of Warner Bros that they made a serious mistake with Justice League, which has already cast some rather dark shadows on the DC Extended Universe as a whole. Finally, there is a significant segment of the fan-base that is not so fond of Snyder’s work based on both Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman, meaning that a Snyder cut of Justice League would be an extraordinarily difficult sale to them, thus making it that much less likely to happen based on financial grounds. Still, surprises can happen, meaning that interested individuals should continue paying attention to see what happens next.
