We’ve been hearing about a potential Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather showdown from the moment Floyd Mayweather retired. In fact, it’s been going on well before that. The issues with having these two get in the ring are plenty. First of all, UFC and McGregor’s contract would have to allow it. Second, payment terms have been impossible to come up with because Mayweather demands a much bigger payday and McGregor’s been pretty annoyed about that. Lastly, how are these two going to fight? It’s a little unfair for McGregor to have to box when he could destroy Floyd by other MMA means. Still though, it appears as though the two have come to an agreement, and it’ll be a boxing match. According to MMAnews
While nothing has been signed, The Irish Sun is reporting that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight title holder and the future boxing Hall of Famer have agreed on financial terms to make a boxing match happen. The report notes a third party is serving as a roadblock from the bout being signed. If UFC President Dana White is to be believed, things could get nasty between the promotion and McGregor.
Mayweather was last seen in the ring in 2015. Still though, I have a feeling that even if this does happen, the fight itself is going to be a huge letdown. We all know that Mayweather is a punch dodger and he’s the best in the business at staying away from trouble. Those who want a slug fest won’t be getting one. Although I think the hype leading up to the fight will be crazier than anything we’ve ever seen. We’ll keep you posted on any developments here.
