The year I was born, 1979, is the first year that Christie Brinkley covered the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. In the years that followed she spent decades going from one exotic location to the next in endless photo shoots displaying her beauty. It wasn’t until 2004 that Brinkley finally “hung it up” as a swimsuit model. During her illustrious career she was married to Billy Joel, has three children, and still looks like she’s 20 today. Now, 13 years after calling it quits, Brinkley is back in a swimsuit and posing with her daughters. In a Facebook post Brinkley says,
Yes! I am excited to announce that I am back in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit ..I figured with my gorgeous daughters Alexa and Sailor by my side whose going to be looking at me! Oh and My kids think I walk on water, so let’s not mention the apple box concealed just under the surface. For a preview check out People ..and thank you Sports Illustrated for sending the powerful message that good things come in packages of every size and we do not come with an expiration date!
“My first thought was, ‘At my age? No way!’” she tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue. “When I turned 30, I was like, ‘This is the last time I’m posing in a bathing suit!’ When this issue comes out, I’ll be 63. I thought, ‘Those days are over.’ But to get to do it with my girls, I thought, ‘One last go!’”
Despite being 63, Brinkley is hoping that he posing in a swimsuit will spark up debates and conversation about ageism. “In a country that’s very ageist, people love to put you in little boxes,” she says. ‘Women feel very limited by their numbers. On a personal level, I thought, if I can pull this off, I think it will help redefine those numbers and remove some of the fear of aging.”
Should be a great issue!
