Since debuting in 2012, NBC’s Chicago Fire has become one of the network’s most popular shows. Each week, millions of viewers tune in to see what this brave crew from the Windy City will overcome, and fans just can’t seem to get enough of Lieutenant Casey (Jesse Spencer) and the crew. In the years since the show has been on the air, Spencer has become a fan favorite, and most fans probably think they know everything there is to know about the star. However, like most people, Mr. Spencer’s a few secrets. This on-screen firefighter might have it all together on-screen, but in real life, he’s got some pretty interesting habits. Here are five things you didn’t know about Jesse Spencer.
He’s a hoarder
Over the last several years, the TV show Hoarders has taken viewers inside the homes of countless people who just can’t seem to throw anything out. If you’ve ever seen the show, you know how harmful the addiction to hoarding can be, and some people find themselves living with all sorts of insects and rodents. Well, Jesse Spencer may not be close to making an appearance on the show, but he’s admitted to being somewhat of a hoarder. According to Spencer, he has a knack for keeping things that “others wouldn’t,” although he likes to refer to this habit as “recycling.”
He’s secretly a nerd
On Chicago Fire, Spencer’s character may be cool and charming, but in real life, Spencer is actually a bit of a nerd. Spencer says that during his childhood, he and his siblings were completely addicted to Dungeons and Dragons.
His siblings are surgeons
Jesse Spencer’s parents must be pretty proud of how their children turned out. Not only is Spencer the star of a TV show, but his two older brothers are both surgeons, and although Spencer didn’t ever attend med school, he did play a doctor on TV.
He can’t stand germaphobes
Most people love cleanliness, but just like everything else, there are some people who take it too far. Seriously, we all know that person who is constantly lathering on the hand sanitizer. Well, Spencer isn’t a fan of people who are afraid of germs and says, “Germaphobes bug the hell out of me.”
Nature keeps him sober
There are plenty of people who love spending time enjoying the beauty of nature, and Jesse Spencer is one of them. However, for Spencer, hanging out on nature is more than just something to do in his free time. According to the star, if he goes too long without spending time outdoors, he’ll “resort to drinking instead.”
