We were left with a pretty intense cliffhanger in the last season of Chicago Fire; we were literally left in the middle of an action sequence–in the middle of a burning building as a matter of fact. It’s only right that season 6 picks up right where they left off, back in that building, with some of our favorite characters’ lives in jeopardy. We all thought that someone was going to have to die in that scene; we just didn’t know which one. The season opener gave us a fiery start to a season, and we’re giving you our top 5 moments from the first episode of Chicago Fire’s season 6.
1. The Pick Up
Picking right off where the season 5 finale ended got us back to feeling the intense emotions we were left with last season. 7 firefighters were still stuck inside that warehouse inferno, and at that point we were still unsure who will live or who will die. We remembered all the theories we came up with and the hoping ensued again. The best part of this is when Chief Boden makes the decision that will ultimately be the best one for the crew left trapped inside.
2. The Heartfelt Goodbye
We didn’t want to believe it but it seemed as if EMS Gabi was going to lose her husband Casey to the fire. Casey tried his best to find a way out, but he knew that his efforts were pointless. He asked to talk to his wife and took off his mask shortly after just so she can hear his voice. Casey basically told Gabi everything you would want to tell a loved one before you died if you were ever given the chance. It was brutally heartbreaking to say the least.
3. The Water Canons
Chief Boden decided to open the water canons to eliminate the fire despite Cruz’s reluctance. Cruz yelled that he would boil them all alive inside the building, but the Chief said that he really didn’t have much of a choice. The fire died down as we all waited in hope. One by one, the firefighters were found in whatever situation they were in and were taken outside.
4. The Ceremony
This is the part that got everyone in the promo. It was pretty clear that death was going for either Mouch or Casey. When we saw Chief Boden gave a speech honoring Casey, we were sure that he had met his fate in that fire. However, the scene actually proceeded to show us Casey, alive and well, being honored with the Medal of Valor for his bravery.
5. The Final Shocker
There were plenty that happened throughout the episode that showed the team going back to their normal hustle. They were called in to take care of a fire that was going on at the school where Donna worked. The team handles this as best as they could, getting everyone out including a teacher who was severely burned. However, the final scene left us hanging yet again at the hospital where Donna and her husband the Chief was found comforting students and teachers from the school. Donna relayed the information to everyone that teacher who was severely burned was still in critical condition. She talked to her husband on the side and told him that the fire was no accident. The scene ends at that, and we’d have to wait for the next episode to figure out what she meant.
