Chewbacca Joins Fort Worth, Texas Police Department For Recruitment Video

Recently, the police department in Fort Worth, TX released a most unexpected training video for new police officers. After all, the training video featured Chewbacca, who people should remember as Han Solo’s huge wookie sidekick from the Star Wars movies said to have been capable of ripping people’s arms out of their sockets when sufficiently provoked. Something that turned out to be no mere boast, as shown by a deleted scene from The Force Awakens in which Chewbacca demonstrated his arm-removal skills on the junk boss Unkar Plutt, who to be fair, had it coming because of his less than scrupulous practices when it came to the scavengers on Jakku. For that matter, it should be noted that Chewbacca was a smuggler very much like his human companion, though to be fair, he was also very much a smuggler with his heart in the right place, which was once again, very much like his human companion. All of which paled in comparison to the fact that a police department was using one of the most iconic Star Wars characters out there for its training videos, which is great for a wide range of reasons but nonetheless more than a little bit odd.

As for those who are curious about the exact content of the training video, they should have no problems finding it on YouTube and other video-sharing websites, seeing as how it has proven to be much more popular than what its creators were intending. This is perhaps unsurprising considering that it features Chewbacca performing some of the tasks expected of police officers, which is simple but nonetheless much more entertaining than it should be. With that said, it should be noted that this isn’t the first time that the police department in Fort Worth, TX has used Star Wars characters for its videos, as shown by a previous video featuring a Stormtrooper on a firing range. Something that constituted a joke in its own right that should be more than familiar to Star Wars fans who have ever joked about their notorious inaccuracy on the movie screen.

What Is Happening with Chewbacca in the Star Wars Franchise Right Now?

Regardless, Chewbacca’s appearance in the popular training video was well-timed, seeing as how The Last Jedi came out not long after its release. Han Solo might have been killed in The Force Awakens, but Chewbacca remains one of the last characters from the original Star Wars movies to still be fighting alongside the main characters from the new Star Wars movies. In fact, there are a fair number of Star Wars fans who have taken note of a scene from the latest movie in which Chewbacca is guilted by a group of porgs staring at him with their huge, soulful eyes, which came much too late for the porg that Chewbacca had just finished roasting.

Besides The Last Jedi, Chewbacca will also be showing up in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is expected to come out in 2018. Said movie will see him paired up with Han Solo in their pre-Episode IV exploits, which should come as welcome news to those who are still upset about what happened in The Force Awakens.
