There’s not much of a secret that the superheroes on TV and in the movies aren’t much without their special effects. It’s a testament to their acting abilities at least that they know how to hit their mark and actually go through the motions. I’m kind of thinking that they must have added portions in their scripts that tell them how they’re supposed to be acting in that moment and what’s supposed to be happening. Of course the director no doubt gives them tips and hints as well along the way.
But there’s no doubt that for a lot of people the act of seeing behind the scenes kind of ruins the whole magical feeling of the movie. It chips away at the overall impact that the show can have on one’s emotions if you actually see what the actors are doing before the final edits are put in. Of course some people are inquisitive enough that they enjoy seeing this kind of thing. They want to see the scene behind the mirror and they want to know that something rational is responsible for something wonderful.
When you really look at it though these actors actually have to be on their game pretty frequently. Despite the editing that’s to be put in later you get the feeling that they don’t get a lot of leeway when it comes to performing the right actions. After all the characters they’re playing have well-defined skill sets and the actions that go with those abilities have to be on point and actually look like they make sense. It seems a little crazy that the Flash should be able to create a vortex by waving his arms in a circular fashion. This is why I’m not really a DC fan, because their characters are typically so ridiculously overpowered. I mean really, mini-cyclones from waving his arms in the air?
Quicksilver might be a slight bit slower than the Flash, but he’s got a little more realism to him at least. I know I sound like a critic at the moment, but in truth some superheroes are a lot more impressive on paper and in the movies and on TV because they have more limitations to work with. It’s easy to be heroic when you have the kind of power set that can combat almost anybody, but those that have less of a power set and in fact are far more limited in what they can do are much more heroic simply because they have more to lose in the pursuit of justice.
But granted, all of them look a little less impressive when the special effects are taken away. That’s when they look the same, when the special effects have yet to be put in and they’re relegated to being actors once again. The effect is very cool when the final edits and the special effects are laid down, but until then it’s a bunch of bare bones acting that leaves a lot to be desired. All respect to the actors though, no matter if I’m a DC fan or not. They hit their marks and get the job done.
