Some people certainly get into Halloween. This headless forecaster definitely likes what he does and isn’t shy about having a little ghoulish fun while doing his job. The only question is what is he wearing that allows him to just disappear like this while someone else holds his head, or is this just some clever editing work? I’m inclined to think the latter since if you look at the hand it appears that it should be cupping his chin but is about an inch or so off the mark. That’s okay, the effect is pretty cool and worth watching.
I wonder though, in this era of everybody being offended by the smallest things possible, if anyone was too offended by the fact that their town was renamed for this particular forecast. Some people might actually be excited to live in a place that’s been dubbed as ‘Hell’ for a daily forecast, though others might actually take offense. It’s pretty harmless really since in the spirit of Halloween a lot of networks around the world tend to do something to commemorate the holiday, even if it’s not strictly observed by a lot of folks.
However I don’t see a lot of American networks being able to do something like this and get away with it simply because too many people might actually get offended and call in to voice their concerns. Yes I know it’s something that only the biggest kooks and most insecure folks would do but it is a very real concern since those people tend to scream very loudly at times and attract the media. Thankfully the media they tend to attract are usually the networks and social groups that are continuously ignored by a lot of people and don’t have a lot of influence on the American public. After all this is just good fun, though with a professional network it still wouldn’t be allowed to be honest.
It’d be nice if people would loosen up a bit at times and allow themselves to actually have fun without thinking that they might offend someone in some way. At this point it seems like the world is becoming an over-sensitive version of its former self that can’t seem to remember the times when it was okay to laugh, to enjoy a holiday, or to just wake up in the morning and enjoy the world outside their home without finding a million things to be offended by. This forecast is great really, it’s a healthy bit of fun that was concocted for the holiday and isn’t meant to harm or disturb anyone. And yet I’m betting there would be people that would find this offensive in some way.
Oh well. It seems that more and more a person just has to ignore the naysayers and negative folks that want to claim that life in general is offensive and must be regulated beyond control. Can’t we at least go halfway back to when things like this were seen as fun and innovative?
