If there’s one TV personality it’s nearly impossible to leave speechless, it’s Charles Barkley. Barkley rarely keeps his mouth shut so to see him just sit there and not say a word is something of an event. Barkley has started a new mini series called American Race which he hopes will raise awareness about racism and shed to light some of the many horrible stereotypes that still pervade in today’s society. But according to Uproxx
The problem is he invited Richard Spencer on the program, whose views on white privilege rendered Barkley speechless. Spencer, if you’re unaware, is a neo-nazi who’s become slightly famous for being reasonably well-dressed and getting punched in the face on camera by a protester. He’s the kind of guy who gets upset when a former KKK leader gets banned from Twitter.
In the past, he’s made outlandish, inflammatory comments, like suggesting white people should stop watching football because it makes them like people of color, which makes him the perfect guest for Barkley’s TNT miniseries, which was released online on Monday. This is almost surreal to watch.
“To be sitting close to somebody who has zero respect for me – he doesn’t believe in equality,” Barkley says. “He doesn’t believe we should race mix, live in the same neighborhood – that was very disheartening to me.”
The crazy thing is that Spencer doesn’t even consider himself to be racist.
