Charles Barkhouse works with Rick and Morty Lagina in the reality television series “The Curse of Oak Island.” He is the historian for the group and he’s knowledgeable about the past of the island and the stories and legends surrounding the treasure that was alleged to have been buried there. Charles isn’t one of the main characters, but he certainly is an important one. He has a fan base all his own and if you’re not yet familiar with him, here are 10 things you didn’t know about Charles Barkhouse.
1. He’s spent a quarter century investigating the island
Charles Barkhouse has always had a fascination with the history of the island and the mysteries that surround it. He’s dedicated the last two and a half decades of his life working on the island and conducting research in order to add to his already vast knowledge base. It’s something that he’s passionate about and this is why he’s such a valuable research to the Lagina brothers.
2. A fan theory places him as a secret Templar
We discovered that there are a great many fan theories about “The Curse of Oak Island” and the famed money pit treasure. One of them is that Charles Barkhouse is really a Templar who has taken a vow to protect the money pit from those who would attempt to find it. Some fans claim that they had the feeling that Mr. Barkhouse is doing everything that he can to lead the Laginas away from the treasure instead of helping them to find it. These suppositions appeared in an article appearing on Reddit’s website.
3. Charles Barkhouse is in fact a Free Mason and Knights Templar
The fans may not be far off at all with their assumptions that Charles is trying to lead the Laginas in the opposite direction of the treasure. Although this is a huge assumption, you can check out his Facebook page and there you’ll discover that he proudly displays the symbol for Freemasonry. In the about section of his page, he is self-described as being a Freemason and a Knights Templar.
4. His tours get rave reviews
For those of you who didn’t already know, Charles Barkhouse gives tours of Oak Island. We read a few reviews from guests on the island who went on tours with him and they gave him glowing reviews for having a wealth of knowledge about the island along with his own insights into the mysteries. He provides a highly interesting and informative tour.
5. He set up a second facebook page
We’re not sure why, but Charles Barkhouse has a redirect on his old facebook page that describes hi as a Templar and Free Mason. Instead of the Masonic symbol, there is a picture of him and on the second site there is no mention of Freemasonry or him being a Knights’s Templar.
6. Charles is also a production consultant
We also learned that Charles Barkhouse is not only a historian for the History Channel’s popular reality series, he’s also a production consultant. He’s a very busy man who is always up to something. He’s also a co-star on the show and we see him appearing in multiple episodes.
7. His grandmother lived on Oak Island
We also learned that Charles’ grandmother spent a lot of time on the island. She made her home on Oak Island during the 1930’s and ’40s so she gave him a lot of additional information about its history and her own experiences while she lived there.
8. He’s a controversial figure
In our research we discovered that there are those who believe that Mr. Barkhouse is a very intelligent historian who knows a lot of great information about the island. He shares freely on his tours to the delight of many who are privileged to go on the adventures. There are also those who believe that he is only involved with the Laginas to trip them up. Good guy or not? It really depends on who you talk to.
9. Barkhouse is a private person
It’s difficult to find out much about Charles Barkhouse because he doesn’t crave the limelight. This of course feeds the conspiracy theorists ideas about his subversiveness. It could also just mean that he’s a private person who values privacy in his personal life. While he does appear on episodes of the show, he doesn’t go out of the way to hog the limelight or to appear as something he’s not. He doesn’t share a lot on his facebook, but instead points visitors back in the direction of the History Channel and the show.
10. Barkhouse is one of the best resources the Laginas have
We made an attempt to find out more about his credentials and education, but all we were able to discover is that he is a museum curator and there is no evidence of higher education available about him. There’s no reason to jump to the conclusion that he’s not educated. Perhaps he has a college degree or maybe he’s a road scholar who is self-educated. It seems that Charles Barkhouse’s personal life and history is almost as much of a mystery as the money pit itself. This just makes the series more exciting, but one thing that we do know is that he just happens to be one of the best resources that the Lagina brothers have at this point in time. His family history intimately links him with Oak Island along with the history and the legends that have been passed down in its more than two hundred years. He’s an asset to the show whether he’s leading them on a wild goose chase or doing his level best to aid them in solving the mysteries of the island and its legends.
