Casting a Biopic about Legendary Band The Cars

The Cars went down in history as one of the more popular rock bands of the 1970s and early 1980s. Their pop version of rock featured synthesizers and guitars which formed an interesting style which culminated in a sound that was unique to their group. They combined rockabilly, power pop, punk minimalism, and other features into the music. Although Ric Ocasek has since passed away, it would be fitting to make a biopic film about the group, to tell their story to the world. If a film were to be made about The Cars, here are the actors we’d like to see cast in the respective parts of the band members.

Ric Ocasek – Nat Wolff

Ric Ocasek was the songwriter, rhythm guitarist, and singer for The Cars. We think that actor Nat Wolff would be an excellent choice to play the part of Ric. He’s 22 years old and could easily portray the young Ric Ocasek. Nat is an actor, but like Ocasek, he’s also a songwriter, a musician, and a singer. He’s the son of parents in the entertainment business. His father, Michael Wolff was a jazz pianist, and his mom, Polly Draper was an actress. It takes some insight into the life of a person, as well as an understanding of their greatest joys and lowest moments to capture the essence of the person throughout a period of time in their life. Nat has the background and knowledge to play Ric with thoughtfulness and depth.

Benjamin Orr – Liam Hemsworth

Benjamin Orr served as bassist for the group. Liam Hemsworth is a 27-year-old actor with a youthful appearance, and he bears a slight resemblance to Benjamin Orr. While he’s just at the beginning of his career in acting, he does have ample experience and a talent for role-playing. He played the role of Josh Taylor in “Neighbours” which is an Australian soap opera. The native of Melbourne moved to California to pursue a career in acting. He also appeared in “The Last Song” with his ex-wife Miley Cyrus, in “The Hunger Games” films and in Independence Day: Resurgence in 2016.

Elliot Easton – Jonny Weston

Elliot Easton was the lead guitarist for The Cars. Jonny Weston is our top pick to play the role of Elliot. Although he’s not a professional musician, he has a look that is close enough, and we loved his acting in “The Divergent Series: Insurgent,” and “Allegiance.” He also made appearances in “Chasing Mavericks” in 2012, and in “Taken 3,” in 2014. He definitely has the acting skills to make the character of Easton come to life. We believe that he could be the actor who brings out the story behind the musician in a portrayal of the great lead guitarist. In addition, we’d like to see his chemistry between the other actors as bandmates. We think it would be a great combination of personalities.

Greg Hawkes – Tyler Posey

Hawkes played the keyboard for The Cars. Our choice of actor to play the part of Greg Hawkes is 25-year-old Tyler Posey. He is best known for his role in MTV’s “Teen Wolf” series. Posey is the son of actor and writer John Posey, and it seems that acting just runs in the blood. You might also remember Tyler from his appearance in “Collateral Damage,” from 2002. He also appeared in “Maid in Manhattan” with Jennifer Lopez, and most recently, he appeared in “Scary Movie 5.” He’s performed in both television and film. He has a good amount of experience, and we think that he has the potential for bringing the part of Hawkes to life in a very profound way. Even if he wasn’t a musician it wouldn’t much because it’s easy to fake it for a film, but it’s the depth of the character that we hope to see revealed. But the fact of the matter is that Tyler is a musician, so that’s’ a real bonus. The ability to tell a story and convey the essence of the person behind the music is what we’d like to see and we think it’s something Tyler Posey would do very well.

David Robinson – Danielle Radcliffe

Dave was the drummer for the band. When you look at actor Daniel Radcliffe, you can’t help but notice that there is a striking resemblance to David Robinson when he was starting out with the band. Although drumming is not one of the talents listed for Radcliffe, he does play the bass guitar. He’s an amazing actor who gained fame as the lead character in the serial “Harry Potter” films. Radcliffe is an accomplished actor and producer and we think that playing the part of David Robinson is a role that he could really put his all into. We’d love to see him take a shot at it.

Final thoughts

A biopic about The Cars would be a lovely tribute to the late Ric Ocasek, as well as the rest of the band, who made their mark in the history of American music. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and they are still remembered for their significant contributions. We’ve chosen an interesting array of young male actors, who we feel would do an amazing job together, with a chemistry that could work well for telling the story of the band. There are five distinct personalities and we believe that each of the actors chosen could work well together in recreating the dynamics of the band and their interactions both on and off the road as they rose to immense popularity and success. We want to get to know the individuals through a film that would individualize them, then tell their story together. Radcliffe, Posey, Weston, Hemsworth, and Wolff represent a unique group of up and coming young film stars and we think a biopic of The Cars would give them each the arena to deliver an unforgettable performance.
