Can John Cena Make it to The Rock Status as a Movie Star?

No one really thought much of The Rock’s transition from WWE to film. After all he had one bit role as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns and as awesome as he was, the CGI in the final battle was just horrible. His acting was great, but then he decided to return in The Scorpion King to resume the role and, unfortunately, it got a very PG rating which essentially killed the film. If he’d been allowed to cut loose and really be the deadly assassin he was supposed to be then everything would have been fine. But I digress, this is about John Cena, not The Rock.

For a while now Cena has been the face of the WWE, especially Smackdown as of late. He’s been lauded as one of the hardest workers and the guy that puts a good deal of class into the place. But as far as his film career goes he’s been a bit spotty since he got started. His stint as The Marine was actually not too bad, and in fact it was more enjoyable than that of Ted Dibiase or the Miz. You could actually buy John Cena as a retired marine and could see him going megaton on the people that kidnapped his wife. Don’t even get me started on the Miz.

But can Cena really cash in on the same kind of fame that The Rock found in Hollywood? It might be just about time to find out since it would appear that Cena is starting to look towards life outside of the ring.

His prestige has been rising.

Despite his slightly more comedic roles in movies like Trainwreck, Daddy’s Home, and Sisters, John Cena has shown that he can step in to take a minor role when called upon to do so. He’s not above earning his way to the top, which is a big reason why so many fans embraced him in the first place. While some might claim that he’s managed to scheme and finagle his way into the good graces of the upper echelon of the wrestling world, they should also recognize that there is no such easy road anywhere in life. If you want something you’ve got to earn it.

He’s set to star in the Transformer’s movie, Bumblebee.

It’s been stated that Cena will have a starring role in this film but that production hasn’t started quite yet. People have loved Bumblebee since the first live action Transformers movie came out. He’s not the strongest or the quickest but he’s the most fearless and the only Autobot that’s gone up against Optimus Prime and actually held his own. So in terms of earning their spot, Bumblebee and Cena should make a good match.

Being as good as The Rock doesn’t matter.

One of the biggest takeaways from Cena’s person on the WWE is that he’s not trying to BE like anyone. He’s trying to be himself and be his own man, and that’s admirable. Comparing him to The Rock isn’t fair to either performer, as The Rock is in his own class just as Cena is. If you really feel the need to compare them then that’s your prerogative. But honestly Cena is Cena and The Rock is now Dwayne Johnson. Get used to seeing them as different people and leave the comparisons to the critics. They need something to do anyway.

So really, John Cena is as good as he’s going to be, and better as he gains more experience.
