Breaking Down the New Roseanne Revival Teaser Trailer

The Roseanne revival has had a trailer released for the Oscars, which presented it with an excellent chance to make its existence known to more people out there. As a result, the trailer contained a fair amount of information, which should provide interested individuals with plenty of fodder for discussion.

For example, the trailer made it clear that Dan would be returning in the Roseanne revival, which is an interesting choice because of what happened in the final season of Roseanne. In short, the finale of Season 9 revealed that the series was supposed to have been a story written by the titular character, meaning that it saw some changes to what happened. In particular, Dan survived the heart attack that happened in Season 8, whereas in the “reality” of the series, Dan died because of it, meaning that the whole of Season 9 was a fantasy concocted by Roseanne, who struggled with what had happened. Now, it seems that Dan did survive the heart attack after all, though it remains to be seen how the writers for the Roseanne trailer will hand-wave the continuity problems created by this particular choice.

With that said, considering that Dan is making a return, it should come as no surprise to learn that other characters are making a return as well. For example, Sarah Chalke is making a return as Becky. Likewise, Johnny Galecki is making a return as David. However, it should be noted that Galecki will be appearing in no more than a single episode because of his commitments elsewhere, seeing as how he plays Leonard on The Big Bang Theory.

However, while there are plenty of people making a return as their characters from the preceding series, there are plenty of new people as well. For example, Emma Kenney has been introduced as Harris, who is the daughter of Darlene and David seeking to climb the socioeconomic ladder. However, she won’t be the sole addition to the family, meaning that interested individuals can expect plenty of new storylines from the Roseanne revival as well.

Regardless, those who are interested in the Roseanne revival can expect to sate their curiosity as soon as it starts up on March 27. So far, ABC has ordered a limited number of episodes, which makes sense since this is intended as a test of its potential. However, should that potential be proven to exist by a significant number of viewers, it seems certain that more episodes will be ordered.

Based on the people who are making a return to the Roseanne revival, it seems safe to say that it will be similar to the preceding series. This is further supported by the fact that the original writer Norm Macdonald has contributed a fair amount to the new series, so much so that he has written for eight of the episodes. However, it has been a long time since Roseanne was being broadcast, meaning that there has been significant changes in the people who will make up the base of potential viewers. As a result, it will be interesting to see how it fares in modern times, particularly since the people who are making it will have changed as well.
