There have been a lot of cute and adorable baby versions of creatures and fuzzy, furry creatures throughout pop culture that have gained a great deal of attention, but baby Yoda, which is what the bounty is being called at this point, is probably being seen as the cutest at this time. In fact he goes beyond Baby Groot if you can believe that, and Austin Lang of AllEars is just one of many that poses the idea that Groot’s days as being one of the cutest as a baby are kind of over. The funny thing is that we all know by now just what he’ll grow up to look like since it seems to go the same for fantasy and science fiction as it does for reality, everyone’s cute as a baby, but only a select few ever seem to stay that way once they grow up. This Yoda-like creature isn’t Yoda obviously but is the same species and as such is obviously just as much of a candidate for being a Force-user as the 900-year old Jedi master was. In fact if you’re up to date on The Mandalorian you’ll be able to tell just how strong this little guy is when it comes to wielding the Force.
His cuteness level is off the charts really, but the grim fate that’s already being theorized is either bound to happen at one point or something else is going to happen that will make certain that the little guy either doesn’t survive or is never heard from again since at this point it would take a lot to explain just why he’s not present for the current trilogy. Mae Abdulbaki of Inverse seems to be following the idea that the creature is being kept around to imbue the Sith Troopers that have been seen in the trailer to Rise of Skywalker with the Force, or at the very least heighten their sensitivity to it. Yoda’s species is obviously Force-sensitive, at least as far as we’ve seen. There’s been a Jedi of the same race named Minch, another named Yaddle, and even a couple in the various games that have appeared over the years. Yoda’s species is few in number and has never been fully explained, but there have been a few of them around, and they’ve all been Force-sensitive and have had the same speech patterns, indicating that such a thing isn’t learned, it’s simply inherent. While we never had the chance to see any of them as children, it’s likely that this is what they all looked like at one point, with some noted differences obviously. But given that they are in tune with the Force, it’s not hard to see why the little guy was able to hold off what some have taken to calling a ‘space rhino’ so that the Mando could finish it off. This ability obviously taxed the creature greatly since it fell into a deep sleep that it didn’t wake from until the Mando had almost reached his goal.
Corey Plante of Inverse is willing to throw his own theory in the ring and state that the Mando going back to rescue Baby Yoda could have helped to save the galaxy a great deal of trouble since the idea is that Palpatine, who many are trying to state was never dead in the first place, was trying to make a comeback by consuming the ‘material’ that the client was talking about in the latest episode. Obviously if we’re still following the whole midichlorians idea and their role in connecting people to the Force, Baby Yoda would be highly valuable to someone like Palpatine since he might have all the faith in the galaxy that someone of Yoda’s race, if they could be found, would be a valued resource. Whether the material would be just for Palpatine or if it was going to be used for his resurrection and the betterment of his Sith Troopers, it would seem that the Mando really did the galaxy a favor by stealing the child away. But it would also mean that the act is going to factor into the Rise of Skywalker somehow, which would make it perfect since the last two episodes are going to bracket the opening day of the third movie. That should give people a lot more to talk about when it comes to just how things pan out and why.
Thus far Baby Yoda has been seen to be compared to cinematic creatures such as Groot, Gizmo, and Pikachu, and at one point and time no one would have thought that anything from Star Wars could have contended with such creatures when it came to cuteness, but obviously John Favreau took that challenge and ran with it. The only thing that might ruin it eventually is the fate that Baby Yoda is already headed for, one way or another.
