3. Arica relates to her character in “Mixed-ish”
Arica has a lot in common with the character she portrays in the new series. She grew up in a family of mixed race, so she can easily relate to the struggles that her character encounters. Rainbow Johnson is a part that she can get into and this makes it easier to move in and out of the role of the girl because of their similarities.
4. She hopes to help others
Arica is a very caring young lady. She shared that she hopes that people who watch the show can feel like they’ve been helped by viewing it. It is her hope that people of mixed race come away from the show feeling that they are not alone in the world and that they’ll realize there are a lot of people who are biracial or mixed race, and that they’ll realize that they are not only unique but that they are special.
5. Arica has theater experience
“Mixed-ish” isn’t Arica’s first experience with the acting profession. She’s actually done quite a bit already in her short time on this earth. She was very young when she first started out in her career in entertainment. Her theatrical debut was in a Second Stage Theater production of “The Layover.” This was an off-broadway play sponsored by the Manhattan-based company.
6. She’s appeared in several television roles
Arica Himmel had prior television acting experience prior to landing the role of Rainbow Johnson. She landed a recurring role in “Thanksgiving in 2016,” which is a comedy series. 7. She’s a native New Yorker
Arica was born in New York and this is also where she has been raised. Living in the city has been a blessing for the aspiring young actress because it’s given her access to the best schools for the performing arts as well as to a variety of roles in stage productions and more. There’s just something about the culture of New York that makes people feel a sense of pride and toughness, and whether it’s just a stereotype or not New Yorkers are known for their never give up attitude.

Diversity is a topic that is finally getting the kind of attention that it deserves. The show “Mixed-ish” from all appearances is getting biracial life right. It’s great when you can tell a story in a meaningful way for viewers. Himmel is going in for the right reasons and she may end up making some significant contributions to changes in societal attitudes about people from multiracial backgrounds while supporting kids and adults who are made to feel bad about who they are. She’s a talented actress, but there is a lot more to her. She’s also aspiring to become a writer, so she can tell the stories through her scripts. Arica also has plans to become a filmmaker and we believe that she is going to be successful in her aspirations, simply because she’s made of the right stuff.
9. Her message is vital for the world
Arica Himmel is being given the opportunity to make a statement through her new role as Rainbow Johnson. We’re at a time in the growth and development of our society when diversity is recognized as richness versus a thing that symbolizes frightening changes. As we move further ahead in the progression of developing an American culture and our societal values, we need more actors starring in more films and television shows that address current situations within our society. There are many people of mixed race who feel that they are caught in between two worlds and don’t fit neatly into either. The truth is that we’re becoming more diverse as a nation and soon people of mixed race will be more of a norm than an exception, but we’re not there yet and this is why characters such as Rainbow Johnson are important.
10. Arica Himmel is a rising star
Himmel is an actress that bears watching. She’s already off to a good start in her acting career, but we see much more ahead for her in the future. Her dreams of becoming a writer and filmmaker are something that we very much hope she pursues and realizes. She has a lot of positive things to say and we’d like to see them through her writing and film production as a part of the upcoming generation of professional filmmakers. Yes indeed, the future does look brighter.
