Apparently Rick and Morty Season 3 is Full of Daddy Issues

If you haven’t watched a single episode of Rick and Morty yet you might want to get on the ball and get to viewing. The series thus far has been somewhat interesting and more to the point it’s really more for adolescents and adults than kids. After all Rick is kind of rough around the edges and his idea of being a good grandparent are often far more controversial than many people would find amusing. But the great thing about this show is that it’s done in such a way that it can be funny even while being mildly uncomfortable. It’s not the Simpsons after all. In the upcoming third season of the show it’s been rumored that the gang will be dealing with some daddy issues that might impact the characters and send the show into a slightly different direction.

Here’s what we know so far.

Beth and Jerry are done, kaput, not getting back together.

To borrow from Taylor Swift, “We are never ever getting back together.” At this point Beth has picked her father over Jerry and will obviously start trying to reconcile the daddy issues she has with her own father in favor of working out her issues with Jerry. It’s believed and even hinted at that her decision to get to know her dad might have something to do with the fact that Rick’s origin story is a bit skewed but we’ll have to wait and see (Dickens, 2017).

The split will have a profound effect on Summer.

It’s largely believed, and for good reason, that Summer was kind of a mistake and hasn’t had a good working relationship with her parents since she was a young child. As anyone with even a hint of background in child psychology might guess this makes for an awkward time growing up and can lead to some serious issues when one parent up and abandons the child no matter how old they are. Summer won’t be leaning heavily on Rick as he’s far more in tune with Morty, but there is a chance she will be looking for a daddy figure as well. One thing that may very well happen, after Summer is done having her mini emotional break, is that Summer and Beth could start to rekindle a relationship that might actually see them become mother and daughter as it should be.

Rick won’t change.

He might accept his role as Beth’s dad a little more now that Jerry’s gone, but chances are he’ll still be the same individual he’s been for the past two seasons. Some character development might actually help him to be a little more personable but too much could possibly ruin the character and make him someone completely different. Don’t expect Rick’s character to change too much in light of Beth wanting to get to know her dad better.

Season three of Rick and Morty will be airing in a couple of days. Be sure not to miss it as this season should be interesting.
