Angry Birds, a widely popular game created by Rovio Entertainment. Hours upon hours can be spent flinging birds from a slingshot at the little round, green pigs, hiding within their elaborate contraptions, who stole the birds’ eggs out of greed and hunger. I’ll never understand why they have so many eggs when they have only one female bird, Matilda. Wonder if Stella and her group of friends help out with the egg laying? Now that it’s getting its’ own movie, I am looking forward to seeing this virtual feud play out on the silver screen.
Though the way the characters are being drawn differs from that of the game, it still stays true to the bright color scheme of primary colors, white, black and pastels. Before the trailers for this movie was released, I had just gotten word, from the Internet, that the film is being made. When I saw the difference in drawing style, I thought that it would’ve been better if the animators stayed true to the drawing style of the game given that it is based on the game.
After seeing the various trailers, however, my opinion on this matter has changed. I have found that this new drawing style works for the movie. If it’s drawn like the game, then it might as well be a cartoon short rather than a feature film. That and it still has the familiarity of the game embedded within it, so it’s all good in my book.
I’m also looking forward to seeing how many movie references that the animators have put into the film. So far I have only seen one for The Shining where two pigs dressed up as the twin girls. Gotta love them movie Easter Eggs, am I right? Voiced by an all-star cast consisting of Jason Sudeikis, Blake Shelton, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Peter Dinklage and Geoffery Arend, who plays Matt on Madam Secretary, this is a perfect movie to start off the summer season. I think that the song “Friends” by Blake Shelton is going to be playing over and over in my mind for a while.
