Angel Reese comes from an athletic family. She was born to Michael and Angel Webb Reese who played basketball at different levels. Reese’s mom spent her college career days at the University of Maryland before playing professional basketball in Luxembourg. Her father, Michael, played for Boston College and transferred to Loyola University in Maryland before going pro overseas. In addition to her parents, Reese’s younger brother, Julian is also a basketball player.

Angel Reese owes everything she has to her mom. While she got the athletic gene from both of her parents, her mom was always there to guide her. She began teaching her the game as a child and would take her to watch her games on Sundays. Ultimately, Reese’s mom motivated her to start playing after seeing her skills in the game and she often emerged as one of the best players in her area.
3. Angel Reese Was Raised By A Single Mom
With the help of her parents, Curtis and Barbara Webb, Angel Webb Reese raised her children as a single mom. Angel Reese’s parents separated when she and her brother were still young. According to ESPN, she doesn’t communicate with her father but her mom worked hard to give her the best life possible. In a 2023 interview with ESPN, Reese shared how her mom inspired her to be confident in her abilities. She learned this by watching her mom raise two kids without their father.
4. She Was The 2020 McDonald’s All-American At St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland
Angel Reese attended St. Frances Academy, an independent Catholic high school in Baltimore, Maryland. She played under head coach Jerome Shelton and was teammates with Nia Clouden who joined the WNBA in 2022. Reese finished her high school career with 1,720 points, placing her in the second position behind Melba Chambers in St. Frances history. She also posted 1,250 rebounds. Among other accolades, Reese was awarded McDonald’s All-American honors in 2020. ESPN also ranked her as number two in her class.
5. Angel Reese Played College Basketball at the University of Maryland and Louisiana State University
The WNBA star began her collegiate career at the University of Maryland. Her freshman season was marred by a foot injury and in her second year, the Associated Press named Reese a third-team All-American. After two seasons at Maryland, Reese transferred to Louisiana State University to continue her junior season. At LSU, Reese scored many titles, including Most Outstanding Player when she led the team to its first national championship. She was also named SEC Player of the Year and an All-American in her senior year.

Angel Reese was projected as a first-round pick after declaring for the 2024 WNBA draft on April 3, 2024. True to that, Reese was selected by the Chicago Sky as the seventh overall pick. Reese shattered Rhyne Howard‘s 2022 record with five consecutive double-digit scoring games in her rookie season. She also got 24 offensive rebounds in the first five games of the season, placing her at number two behind WNBA legend Yolanda Griffith who reached 31.
