After months of auditioning and competing, the first semifinals of America’s Got Talent season twelve is about to begin. The competition is getting intense. Will the acts remain calm under pressure?
Singer Yoli Mayor started things off with Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur. The Miami native wowed the Dolby Theater audience with her stunning voice. I thought she sounded a bit off key, but that’s just me. Simon, however, thought the performance was perfect and that he is glad to see the real Yoli return.
Magician Eric Jones then took to the stage and did some close up magic with money. He got all four judges to take part. When he said to each of them that they were his favorite judge, I rolled my eyes in amusement. His delivery this time was much better than his previous performance. Though he might have to work on differentiating between Heidi Klum and Mel B.
I loved Preacher Lawson’s act tonight. All of his jokes were hilarious and hits you right in the funny bone (in a good way). I also applaud his message about adoption. Whether it be children or pets, they all deserve love and care. Hope America votes him through to the finals!
When DaNell Daymon and the Greater Works took to the stage to sing an Aerosmith song, I immediately thought of the famous I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing. Their rendition of it is nowhere near as good as the original, but they have their own gospel flair to the song.
Chase Goering and Johnny Manuel both sang original songs. Chase’s performance got rave reviews from the judges while Johnny’s had a little criticism from Mel B and Howie. The two judges thought that the young singer made a poor choice in singing and original song when well-known songs are what got him this far. I’m all for originality, but sometimes you have to take what’s out there and make it your own.
Ventriloquist Darcie Lynne brought another new puppet for her performance tonight. This time, it’s an elderly lady by the name of Edna Doorknocker (hope I spelled that right). Edna sang (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman to confess her feelings for Simon. The performance made the judge/creator blush crimson which you do not see every day. I wonder what their ship name will be?
End Notes:
Sarah and Hero’s act tonight did not make me feel like they stepped up. It felt like the same thing over and over. If they make it through, I hope that she will come up with something that will amaze the audience.
Billy and Emily’s performance tonight, though dangerous, is still felt like they were doing the same thing that they did before. I’m not sure if America will vote them through, but we’ll find out soon enough.
Evie Clare and Mike Yung’s performances were average tonight. Though Mike edges out Evie a little it because the man has been singing for thirty-seven years. Simon said that Evie’s performance was beautiful, but it’s up to America to put her through.
The results are tomorrow night and season eleven runner-up, The Clairvoyants, return to perform.
