America’s Got Talent: Quarterfinals Continue and Technical Difficulties Arise.

America's Got Talent

Twelve new acts compete for a spot in the next group of top seven acts on tonight’s America’s Got Talent. Some will step up their game while others will take a step backward. Who’s got what it takes to go to the semifinals?

The singers tonight were a bit half and half so to speak. A few of them delivered amazing performances, but a couple of them still needs to rehearse more. Mirror Image’s song choice was a miscalculation on their part. The harmony that they had before seemed to disappear. I have my doubts about them making it to the semifinals, but it is up to America to vote. The same for Evie Clare’s performance. Her song choice, though good, came across as off-sounding to me. Either that or I need a lesson in music.

I loved Johnny Manuel’s and Mandy Harvey’s performances. Even Simon was close to tears after hearing Mandy’s song. I hope that they will make it through tomorrow. If not, then they can go audition for either The Voice or American Idol. The Masqueraders also delivered an awesome performance. The judges all sang their praises (see what I did there?) after they finished singing the song.

Technical difficulties were the villains of the night as they plagued two acts as they performed live. Light Balance was the first when their light display background wouldn’t function properly. Tyra vouched for them, and their dress rehearsal clip was shown in place of their live performance. Damien Atidya was the next unfortunate victim. His death-defying escape act took too long which earned him two X’s from Mel B and Simon. Maybe America will sympathize with them and vote them through.

The act that amazed me tonight was Eric Jones’s mind-boggling magic act. He put a poker chip through a sheet of glass and then pulled a card chosen and signed by Howie out of a larger piece of glass. Then, to top things off, he pulled the biggest trick of all: putting himself through the glass. Either he is a student at Hogwarts, or he had help from the Flash.

Side Notes

Brobots and Mandroids’ performance was pretty good. Though I don’t think that it’s Vegas quality, they can go on a tour of some sort. They could perform across the country or around the world if they wanted to.

Celine Tam’s song tonight was powerful and gave me goosebumps. I’m still amazed that such a big voice can come out of a little girl like her. Then again, Jackie Evancho can sing opera, so this is nothing compared to that.
