America’s Got Talent: Final Golden Buzzer and Former Contestant Remembered.

America's Got Talent

It’s Round Six of auditions on tonight’s episode of America’s Got Talent. Let’s see who has what it takes to make it to the next round.

The night started off with a boy-band from Miami called 5 Alive. They went full-on 90’s nostalgia doing covers of Poison by Bell Bin Devoe and Pony by Ginuwine. As good as the act was, it did not impress Simon. The show creator/judge said it felt very old-fashioned. The other judges, however, felt otherwise and allowed the group to move on to the next stage of the competition.

An Argentinian dance troupe called the German Corenjo Dance Company performed next. They brought passion and grace to the AGT stage. Infusing tango with the beauty and gracefulness of ballet and jazz, the troupe performed synchronized moves, using the entire stage to their advantage. It certainly makes me want to take up dancing, but only for a brief moment. I’m a writer, not a dancer.

When thirteen-year-old Angelina Green came onto the stage, I was touched by her backstory. Her parents are divorced, and the only thing she can turn to for comfort was music. The young singer dedicated her audition to her mother, performing a raw, moving cover of I’ll Stand by You by The Pretenders. Afterward, the judges wore their emotions on their sleeves. Heidi said that Angelina has an old soul about her when she sings and was in complete awe of her performance that the model pressed the final Golden Buzzer.

The episode concluded with a touching tribute to the late Brandon Rogers. The twenty-nine-year-old doctor performed a beautiful cover of Ribbon in the Sky by Stevie Wonder. By the end of his performance, he had all four judges, and the entire theater audience, on their feet. Heidi said that there is something special about his voice, and Simon said his vocals were stunning. The judges sent Brandon through to the next round with four yeses. His audition was aired with permission from his family after he passed away due to a tragic car accident. Rest in Peace, Brandon. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with us.

Side Notes:

Dancer Canion Shijirbat showed off his powers of illusion performing against a backdrop projection. His visually-stunning act managed to fool Simon, who thought that there were two dancers on the stage. Someone is seeing double. The dancer got four yeses from the judges and is moving on to the next round.

The lady who performed in the skydiving simulator was terrific. I loved that she combined ice-skating moves along with the acrobatics that a professional skydiver might do. Wonder what she will do for the next round?

Comedian Harrison Greenbaum did a pretty great job with his comedy bit. I agreed with Mel B when she voiced her disappointment saying that the performance was too short. When Harrison mentioned his academic achievements, my eyes went wide. He graduated top of his class in both high school and at Harvard University. Shame his years of top-notch education was for naught as he wants to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. Though on the other hand, Jeremy Lin is also a Harvard graduate studying Economics and is doing well for himself playing in the NBA.
