Why American Idol’s New Judges Will be a Hit

American Idol is one of the most popular television singing competitions in the United States. It follows the search for the next big star from the United States from the first auditions to choosing the winner in the climax of the show. While many people tune in to watch the contestants, the judges are also an appealing element of the show. People enjoy watching how the judges use their own experience to guide the contestants through the experience and decide who goes through and who goes home. The rapport between the judges can also make a difference to the viewing experience, so it is essential that the right judges are chosen to work together. In the past, there have been some amazing talents on the judging panel. Just a few of these include Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Jennifer Lopez, Steve Tyler, Mariah Carey, and Nicki Minaj. It has now been announced that the next panel of judges will include Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Ritchie. So, what can this trio bring to American Idol?

Katy Perry

Katy Perry was the first judge confirmed for American Idol 2017 and a statement was released on May 16, 2017. Katy Perry initially tried to launch a career as a gospel singer but her first album was unsuccessful. Instead, she switched to pop music and her second album ‘One of the Boys’ was a huge success. It featured Perry’s hit song ‘I Kissed a Girl’. This album was the first by a female artist in the United States to produce five number one singles. Her success has continued since then and this gives her the perfect experience to act as a judge on American Idol. She will understand the genres of gospel and pop well and can also take the perspective of a woman in the music industry.

Luke Bryan

On September 29, 2017, it was revealed that Luke Bryan will be the second judge on the panel. Bryan is a country singer and songwriter who began his career by writing music for Billy Currington and Travis Tritt. He has since released many of his own albums and has achieved success with many number one singles. His most recent album ‘Kill the Lights’ was released in 2015. He brings to American Idol vast experience both as a performer and as a songwriter.

Lionel Ritchie

The final judge was revealed as Lionel Ritchie on September 29, 2017. Lionel Ritchie is a music legend that brings vast experience to the table. Originally a member of The Commodores, Ritchie has had a solo career since 1982. Since then, he has sold over 100 million of his records worldwide and this makes him one of the most successful artists in the world of all time. He is not only a singer, but also an actor, a songwriter, and a record producer. His experiences in various aspects of the music industry qualify him to give valuable opinions regarding the performances of contestants and suggest ways in which they can progress in their career.

Will They Work Well Together?

To find out if they will work together, viewers will have to watch the next season of American Idol. However, early indications are that this could be the perfect combination of judges. They each have experience in a different genre of music, so they have different experiences that will allow them to contribute to different aspects of the show. Their differing personalities could also make interesting viewing as it is unlikely that they will always share the same opinion but they are likely to respect the viewpoints of their fellow judges.
