Indian movie star Ameesha Patel has been lighting up screens for the last 20 years. Although she has primarily done Bollywood films, she has branched into Telugu films as well. 1. She Is Named After Both Of Her Parents
According to the names.org, the name Ameesha means truthful/honest, but it has an extra layer of meaning in the Patel family. Ameesha’s name is technically a Portmanteau because it comes from a combination of both her parents first names: Amit and Asha.
2. She’s Selective About The Products She Advertises
On top of being a successful actress, Ameesha has also been a model for most of her career. She has appeared in ads for several well-known companies, but she isn’t willing to advertise just anything. Ameesha only likes to model for products that she genuinely stands behind. During an interview she said, “I will not do cigarette and alcohol ads or pan masala types because I genuinely believe that stars influence people. We’re their role models and it becomes our duty not to lead them up the wrong path.”
3. She Worked In Economics Before Becoming An Actress
Unlike many other professional actors, Ameesha’s entire life wasn’t focused on pursuing an acting career. She went to college at Tufts University in Boston where she studied bio-genetic engineering. She eventually changed her major to economics and got a job working as an analyst after college.
4. She Likes To Stay Active
Being in the spotlight puts a lot of pressure on celebrities to look a certain way, but that isn’t what motivates Ameesha. She enjoys staying active because it keeps her feeling good. Whether she’s practicing yoga, going to the gym, or exercise outdoors, Ameesha makes it a point to include physical activity into her regular routine.
5. Her Parents Didn’t Initially Support Her Acting Career
As you can probably imagine, Ameesha’s parents were thrilled when she decided that she wanted to leave her job in economics and become an actress. As she began to find success, however, her parents realized that she had made the right decision.

Ameesha prides herself on her ability to stay positive despite what may be going on in her life. She told Prokerala, “I have always been a very positive person. Ameesha has a very large platform and this is something she takes seriously. She has used her time in the spotlight to support various causes she believes in, one of which is animal rights. In 2004, she collaborated with PETA in an ad campaign to highlight how poorly animals are treated in zoos.

Being able to work consistently has been a blessing for Ameesha, but it also means that her schedule is usually hectic and she doesn’t always have time to relax and do other things she enjoys. When she does get the time, she loves to curl up with a good book.
9. She Has Worked Hard To Avoid The Politics Of The Entertainment Industry
There’s no secret that the entertainment industry is full of politics and people often have to do things they never imagined in order to get ahead. Ameesha is proud to say that she’s never bought into any of this. During her interview with Prokerala she said, “Unlike other stars, I am not a part of dirty games or politics. I have always been out of politics.” She added, “I don’t date the heroes to get films. I have survived so far on my own.”
10. She Started A Production Company
Being in front of the camera isn’t the only thing Ameesha is passionate about, she also likes to get involved with things behind the scenes. She started her own production company called Ameesha Patel Productions, but it’s unclear whether or not the company is still active.
