Instead of dragging out a role to the point where people don’t even like it anymore (kind of like when SNL drags out its skits for at least 2 minutes longer than they need to), Alec Baldwin is hinting that his days of impersonating Donald Trump on SNL may be coming to a close. Baldwin told Extra’s Mario Lopez that he may not do the impression much longer, because “I don’t know how much more people can take.”
Baldwin explained that, compared to previous commanders in chief who have been impersonated on the show, “Trump just overwhelmingly lacks any sportsmanship. He remains bitter and angry, and you just want to look at him and go, ‘You won!'” “I think the maliciousness of this White House has people very worried, which is why I might not do it much longer, that whole impersonation,” he continued. “I don’t know how much more people can take.”
I personally think this is a smart move. We’re pretty much getting to the point where making fun of Donald Trump might almost be exactly what our President wants. Any and every single thing that can deflect from all the White House scandals right now is probably better for Donald than worse. If celebrities are really serious into taking down Donald Trump they’d pool together their resources and launch their own private investigation into all of this.
Something tells me Alec Baldwin will turn activist once he’s done mocking the President. Hopefully he and others will have a lasting impact.
