For those who stuck with Agents of SHIELD to the end (and you absolutely should have, as it went from ho-hum to amazing) you learned that new agent/hack extraordinaire Skye is…special. We’re not quite sure how, or why, but she’s special. She’s been seeking after her parents as one of the central mysteries of the show, but the season ends with a hint that her parents were not fleeing from monsters. They were the monsters, whatever that means.
Now, one of the monsters has been cast, it seems. Agents of SHIELD has cast Skye’s father. The actor playing him will be Kyle MacLachlan. He’s set to be a recurring character in an unknown number of episodes, but will hopefully shed some light onto the central Skye mystery.
Skye sort of seemed like the show’s most useless character for a while, little more than a pretty face with implausible hacking abilities, but like the rest of the show, she evolved over time. Her relationship with Ward is particularly interesting and ultimately tragic as the events of the finale few episodes unfold. I swear that the last few episodes of SHIELD season one are better than most actual Marvel movies. The show really turned things around, and if you gave up, I highly suggest you see it through.
The show has also added Lucy Lawless as SHIELD agent, so between her and Skye’s father, this is going to be a season not to miss, I have to imagine. I’m just hoping Agent Carter learns from its early mistakes.
