Between the TV shows he’s been working on and the movies Aaron Paul has been a busy guy, but somehow it still feels like he’s been missing from the mainstream for a while. It could be that his current roles aren’t quite as exciting as playing Jesse on Breaking Bad. That was one big role to live up to once the show was over and done, especially considering that he was there from the start. He hasn’t been idle since, and in fact he’s been doing a lot since the show started without taking that much of a break in between. Yet if he’s not playing Jesse a lot of folks seem to miss out on him quite often.
He was in Need for Speed, Central Intelligence, and a slew of other movies, and he’s also also lent his voice to the show Bojack Horseman and starred in The Path. So you can see he hasn’t been sitting on his butt doing nothing, but the characters he plays, while well-developed and engaging, just aren’t the same as Jesse. Something about Jesse was just too good to pass on. He wasn’t a good person throughout much of the first few seasons, even if he eventually got on board with Walter and helped to produce a substantial amount of product. He was a very conflicted person during the show, a guy that walked a tight rope between insanity and a kind of manic calm that left him seeming as though he was on edge the entire time even if he was sitting doing nothing.
As a partner to Walter White he was perfect. He made the rash decisions and did things in a manner that was not always advisable but somehow, some way, still managed to compliment Walter in a manner that was not unlike a young kid needing a mentor to help guide him through life in some screwed up way. Walter did just that in a way but wasn’t exactly the nurturing type. It was a learn-as-you-go kind of thing and heaven help Jesse if he didn’t learn quickly enough.
Since Breaking Bad he’s been busy promoting his other movies and TV shows and has been a fairly prominent person if one knows where to look. He didn’t just fall off the map if that’s what people are thinking and there’s no chance that he’ll be leaving Hollywood any time soon since he’s still working and still entertaining folks with what he has to offer. But it does seem like he’s been quiet for a while even if he’s still around.
Maybe he’s been enjoying a transition these last few years from the part of Jesse, stretching out his acting legs so to speak and getting used to doing something else. Having taken a look at his filmography, which is rather impressive really, it stands to reason that he might want to take some time off for a bit or at least slow down the pace just to see what it is he really wants to pursue.
