Rob Zombie may be known as a musician first, but the heavy metal singing musician loves horror above all else, something noted in his projects throughout his career. From the formation of his heavy metal band White Zombie, Rob Zombie went on to release solo music and quickly got involved in the film industry as well. From House of 1000 Corpses, Rob Zombie completed the rest of his Firefly trilogy, re-created two Halloween films and more popular media franchises, and created more of his own. However, most recently, Rob Zombie has gotten involved in an original remake of The Munsters, which will release physically through Universal before coming to Netflix exclusively. Below, we’ve detailed the career of Rob Zombie, what led him to create a new era of The Munsters for Netflix, and details about the film and history of the franchise.
Rob Zombie
As stated above, Rob Zombie has always been involved with horror one way or the other, as noted from his extremely gory takes on the Halloween franchise and his dark-comedy House of 1000 Corpses and its sequels. With practically everything Rob Zombie has ever done, some form of horror has been present, and comedy has always seemed to come second nature to Rob Zombie. As such a fan of horror, it’s not a surprise that Rob Zombie will be creating a new era of The Munsters for Netflix, alongside Universal, the property holder of The Munsters. Since it was first announced that Rob Zombie was set to bring his unique take on The Munsters, he has constantly updated the movie’s progress with fans through his Instagram. From scouting locations to casting news and beyond, Rob Zombie has shared updates for The Munsters for Netflix, with one of the most recent updates coming from his director’s chair, as he confirmed that principal photography had begun. At the same time, it was announced almost a year later in July that filming had wrapped up. As filming had finished earlier this year, we may see the Rob Zombie The Munsters movie hit the service in time for Halloween 2022. Rob Zombie announced that the movie would come to Netflix through Universal, while it was later announced that the Blu-ray release date would be September 27th, 2022, with a collector’s edition that has an hour-long behind-the-scenes special. Unfortunately, the Netflix release of the Rob Zombie written and directed The Munsters had yet to be officially announced.
Rob Zombie The Munsters on Netflix
The Munsters has been a show that many remember growing up with, whether it was a show from your youth or a family member watching the show when you were growing up, and The Munsters are a household name. The same goes for Rob Zombie, who grew up watching the show himself, and well enough so that this won’t be an R-rated project from the horror-fiend but PG to fit with the accurate model of the original series. While the PG rating may upset some, Universal likely wants to keep The Munsters the confused and out-of-place but family-friendly programming that it has always been. While the cast hasn’t been entirely revealed, a large portion, such as the main cast, has been revealed to include quite an exciting handful of actors. While Rob Zombie won’t feature in the central role in the film, his wife Sheri Moon Zombie will take on the role of Lily Munster, while the on-screen husband Herman Munster was cast to be played by Jeff Daniel Phillips. The film’s plot revolves around how Herman and Lily met. Unfortunately, Eddie Munster won’t be included in the film due to the time setting of the film. However, the original actor for Eddie Munster has a new role in the Rob Zombie The Munsters film for Netflix, a different role from the original The Munsters. The original Eddie Munster, Butch Patrick, has been confirmed to take on the role of The Tin Can Man in the Rob Zombie The Munsters movie. Other actors attached to the film have been confirmed to be Jorge Garcia of Lost as Floop, Daniel Roebuck as The Count, Sylvester McCoy as Igor, Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, and a good amount of others in new roles, as well as older, pre-established The Munsters characters. Overall, Rob Zombie’s The Munsters movie on Netflix may have a PG rating, but Rob Zombie stated that he felt the film was the perfect Halloween movie. However, as the trailers so far have received mixed opinions, we’ll have to see this fall when the movie has released on Blu-ray and Netflix sometime after.
