The “Jurassic Park” films have been popular since their first release in 1993. It wasn’t until the latest trilogy of films that characters from previous films started to have more continuously prominent roles. The first three “Jurassic Park” films were more independent stories that aligned with each other due to the happenings at the literal “Jurassic Park,” and the final three films released within the Jurassic Park franchise, “Jurassic World,” feature Chris Pratt as the leading man. Below, we’ve chronologically detailed all of the “Jurassic Park” movies.

“Jurassic Park”
“Jurassic Park” was the first film in the series, adapted from a novel of the same name before it was even released. The original novel was a bit more violent and portrayed characters differently. “Jurassic Park,” the film followed two sets of people invited to the island where the Jurassic Park theme park was housed, which also has a real-life park at Universal, where they witnessed everything from the scientific acts behind the revival of the dinosaurs on the island to full-grown dinosaurs acting in expected, and unexpected behavior. The movie overall featured Ian Malcolm, Alan Grant, and Ellie Sattler and their discoveries on the island, following their initial invite after an accident with an employee. Of course, as most know, the dinosaurs escape their habitats and practically destroy the island, everything, and everyone in their path.

“The Lost World: Jurassic Park”
Much like the first “Jurassic Park” film, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” was also based on a novel from the author of “Jurassic Park,” Michael Crichton, who also created the medical drama, “E.R.” for Steven Spielberg to adapt. Out of every “Jurassic Park” movie, only “Jurassic Park” and “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” were based on novels, while the rest of the sequels are original pieces of work based on the movies before it. “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” followed Ian Malcolm again; otherwise, the cast was mainly new as he traveled to a second island where the Jurassic Park theme park owners were experimenting with dinosaurs.

“Jurassic Park III”
“Jurassic Park III” saw the return of Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler as they, against their will, revisited a Jurassic Park theme park site, but this time to rescue a mother and son as they accidentally parachuted onto the island. “Jurassic Park III” was the first “Jurassic Park” film that Steven Spielberg didn’t direct and was directed by Joe Johnston with Spielberg’s permission instead, underneath Amblin. Overall, “Jurassic Park III” was released in 2001 and was intended as the final film at the time, as it ended the original trilogy. It wasn’t until 2015 that the series was revived with an easter egg-fueled start to a new trilogy.

“Jurassic World”
“Jurassic World” was not only the first film in the second trilogy within the Jurassic Park franchise but also the first film to feature Chris Pratt as the leading character, who has had more action roles since his time on “Parks & Recreation.” While not every “Jurassic Park” movie has had a solid reoccurring cast, the second trilogy with Pratt was strengthened by him as the lead character in each and other characters. Overall, “Jurassic World” was more of a soft reboot of the franchise while taking note of the events of the previous films.

“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”
As stated above, Chris Pratt was the leading actor in the Jurassic World trilogy as a Velociraptor trainer, as Claire enlisted him, also from the first “Jurassic World” movie, to rescue the dinosaurs from an impending volcanic eruption and track Blue. “Jurassic World: the Fallen Kingdom” had a reference and picture of Ian Malcolm from the first Jurassic Park trilogy, but the actor didn’t appear again until “Jurassic World: Dominion.” Overall, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” was a leading point for the final film in the trilogy, as nearly every event from “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom had some sort of repercussion noted in Dominion.

“Jurassic World: Dominion”
“Jurassic World: Dominion” was not only the final film of the Jurassic World trilogy but out of every “Jurassic Park” movie, “Jurassic World: Dominion” brought together the events and characters of the previous Jurassic Park movies better than any other. The film, released in 2022, brought headline characters, Owen and Claire, from the earlier Jurassic World movies, together with the most notable characters from the original Jurassic Park trilogy, Ian Malcolm, Ellie Sattler, and Alan Grant, as well as some additional characters from the earlier movies from the franchise. Overall, “Jurassic World: Dominion” was an epic conclusion to every event from every “Jurassic Park” movie. However, the movie also felt as though Universal was taking advantage of nostalgia with the last three entries of the Jurassic Park franchise.
