Casting an Arrow Feature Film

Arrow Season 8

Given a chance, we’d probably cast an Arrow feature film with all the same actors and actresses from the series. However, this would be a very short article if we didn’t have some other great ideas. As movie buffs, TV connoisseurs, and comic lovers, we can think of more than a few people we’d cast if we couldn’t get anyone from the show. Casting an Arrow feature-length film could be our idea of a dream job if we weren’t busy writing about it anyhow. Here are our top choices for an alternate Arrow cast.

Oliver Queen (Green Arrow)

If you’re going to play the Green Arrow, you need to know how to hold a bow. Being a capable archer is the least we, as fans, should expect from a bow-wielding superhero. Luckily actors come from all walks of life, and they have plenty of diverse hobbies. We have a perfect actor to step in as Oliver. First, Sam Claflin, who played Finnick O’Dair in the Hunger Games, has always been athletic. Born in England, he loved football (or as we call it soccer) when he was younger. Sadly he suffered two broken ankles when he was a teenager, which prematurely ended his sports career. Fortunately, he decided to try out performing arts, and a great teacher suggested he get into drama. We think he could pull off spoiled by money, tragic, and we know he can shoot a bow from his time as the prince in Snow White and the Huntsman.

John Thomas “Dig” Diggle, Sr.

Playing a fantastic warrior, with a code of honor who’s not afraid to kill if it’s necessary is already familiar territory for our next pick. Michael Jai White did a fantastic job playing a superhero once already. He was outstanding as Spawn, and we think he’d do a superb job as John. Though we know he deserves a starring role, he’s the best choice we could make for an A.R.G.U.S. agent, Team Arrow member, and all-around tough guy with a soul. Michael knows a lot about playing a soldier with a heart from his time in a different cinematic universe. Moreover, he’s a martial artist in real life, which is probably why he was cast as Jax in Mortal Kombat. Well, that and pure talent. If we need a Green Arrow, who can shoot a bow, then looking for a soldier who can fight only makes sense.

Felicity Smoak (Overwatch)

Following our pattern here, we had to find the perfect actress who knows her way around a computer like a pro. The great news is that we happen to know an actress who double-majored in theater and computer science. We know the classic blonde nerd girl with glasses is cannon, but there’s no good reason why we shouldn’t switch it up. Felicity is fierce and brilliant, just like Lyndsey Scott. The character is an extraordinary hacker and computer wiz. The downside is that we’re not a hundred percent sure that she’d take the role if we had a script to hand her. For the last several years, Lyndsey has been busier developing great phone apps. However, if she did take the part, her imDown app would make an excellent platform for spilling just enough details to keep us wanting more while they film since the videos have to be under a minute. No other actress embodies Felicity as well in real life.

Sarah Lance (White Canary)

White Canary is worthy of her own show, but somehow she always ends up in the background of someone else’s action. Perhaps that’s appropriate for the former member of the League of Assassins who trained under Ra’s Al Ghul. It might not be easy for her to truly come out of the shadows, even in that stunning white leather getup. The only way to be Sarah Lance as an actress is to be a multi-talented mixed martial artist before you ever read a line. We love the idea of casting a top tier fighter who’s also a fabulous actress. Gina Carano is a pioneer in the MMA arena who can certainly take down her opponent. We’re pretty sure she’d rock a blonde wig just like everything else she tries out. The “Face of Women’s MMA,” aka “Conviction Crush,” has done her share of action films too. As part of Deadpool, she’s part of the other universe (Marvel), but it wouldn’t be the first time someone crossed over. Moreover, who else could claim they’ve fought a ‘Cyborg’?

Roy Harper (Arsenal) & Thea Queen (Speedy)

Playing the roles of Green Arrow’s little sister and her boyfriend, who also happens to be Arrow’s protege, we cast a couple. Miles Teller and Keleigh Sperry have all the charisma and chemistry they need. While neither of them is a martial artist (as far as we know), they both dance, which means they’ll pick up the moves quickly enough, and they’re used to being physically in action as much as any other athlete. Like their characters, the young couple is on the rise, which makes them a practical and dynamic match for the roles we have for them. Miles has experience in fighting roles and superheroic parts, as well. As a star in Allegiant, War Dogs, and the 2015 reimagined Fantastic Four, he’s undoubtedly primed and ready to play a role like Roy. Keleigh might not have the same filmography under her belt, but she’s doing heroic things in real life with The Wells of Life. As the first woman ambassador and advisor to the prime minister of Uganda, she’s every bit as heroic as Thea.

Final Thoughts

Casting isn’t as easy in real life, so we’re glad that we can do the ‘fantasy football’ version. Regardless, with a lineup like this, we can see everyone fan of the Arrowverse showing up for the opening night. Casting people who have something in common with the parts they’re playing is always a safe bet, but every one of the actors and actresses on this list deserves the credit we give them for their talent. Who would you cast in an Arrow movie? Let us know in the comments.
