Jeremy Piven Alert: He Just Landed an Indie Movie Role

Piven

Crabs in a Bucket sounds like a rather ridiculous title for a movie but it could pan out considering that it does seem to have an impressive cast, including Jeremy Piven, who a lot of people might be surprised to still see around, or not. The all-out witch hunt that’s been the MeToo movement just about ruined a few people and put a lot of others on notice only a couple of years back when it really experienced a surge in popularity, and unfortunately Piven’s name was on the list. It would seem that like a lot of people he’s doing his best to bounce back and take control of his life once again so as to continue his career and move forward. Jessica Fisher of GeekTyrant gave a little more on this story as she outlines just who’s in the movie and how things are going at the moment.

The movie seems pretty straightforward to be honest as Piven plays Mick, a real estate developer who might not be on the best terms with his family but comes home when his mother passes away. Things get complicated quickly when he learns that she’s willed him the family pub that sounds as though it’s anything but successful and will no doubt become a burden if he accepts it. But the kicker here is that the family wants him to keep it while his boss wants him to sell since he’s planning on developing the area and needs the pub to be razed. You can imagine what kind of situation this would put Mick into since family over work or vice versa tends to be the beginning of a pretty decent story line that can go in a dozen different directions at once. With Jeremy Piven such a story usually tends to be funny, dramatic, and in some ways a slightly twisted version of events that might confuse some people depending on the story or might lay things out in a way that’s easy to see but still needs a bit of explanation by the end.

It will be nice to see Piven once again as it’s usually nice to see him since the guy brings a bit of humor to the screen even if the movie he’s in doesn’t happen to have a whole lot of room for brevity. In this case it almost seems as there might be some genuine to dark or even depressing humor that goes on, but with actors such as Bruce Dern and Jamie Kennedy it might be a little more balanced and even nuanced in a way. Piven is after all the kind of guy that can hit the switch and be funny as well as dramatic. You can probably guess that talks of what he’s been up to since being bashed by the MeToo movement have been coming up as of late and people have been trying to figure out what he’s been doing. It does sound as though he hit the road to do more standup comedy as Charles Trepany of USA Today has revealed, but he’s also stated that he was one of the many that became collateral damage thanks to the harmful movement. While MeToo was meant to be a positive idea that would help a great many women, which it did, the thought that it was taken too far is one that gained a lot of ground and yet was still buried more than once since it went after just about anyone that could be targeted in order to ruin careers in the name of perceived slights that eventually started to cast doubt on real cases of abuse. Too many people claim that the false allegations were so few in number that it shouldn’t have mattered, but honestly, all it took was a few to cast a pall on the MeToo movement.

With that in mind however you can bet that a lot of those affected are either trying to move forward and reclaim their careers or are still reeling from the hits they took not that long ago, but Piven seems to be doing okay since Crabs in a Bucket seems as though it could be something interesting that might spark a bit of interest. Jeff Ames from Coming Soon chimes in on this as well since a number of people seem to think that this is going to be an interesting movie to watch, and will possibly be a resurgence to his career. One can only hope really since he is a funny individual and someone that has a great deal of worth in the business. Considering that his denials of sexual misconduct were still attacked without fail, it’s hard to think that everyone is going to be enthusiastic about his return, but honestly it’s easy not to care since he is someone that’s fun to watch.
