Five Actors Who Should Play Eddie Money in a Movie

The recent death of singer-songwriter Eddie Money has fans mourning the loss of the music icon who kept us entertained for nearly 50 years. He was famous for many hit songs including “Baby Hold On,” “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Take Me Home Tonight,” “Think I’m In Love,” and many more. Eddie passed away from esophageal cancer on September 13, 2019. It would be fitting to write a screenplay to memorialize him with a biopic of his life on film. We have five actors in mind who we think would do an amazing job in the role of the Grammy Award-winning superstar.

1. Ansel Elgort

Ansel Elgort co-starred in the hit movie “The Fault in Our Stars,” in 2014. He played the role of Augustus Waters in a romantic drama of two teenagers suffering from terminal cancer who meet at a support group for cancer victims. They fall in love and have wonderful adventures in the bittersweet love story. He also appeared in the 2017 film “Baby Driver,” as well as “Hunger Games.” He’s an actor just in his twenties and we think that he’d be extremely good cast in the role of Eddie Money. Ansel has a way of bringing out sincere emotions in the characters he portrays. He is also a songwriter and a performing singer, so he’s not shy when it comes to taking the stage for a performance.

2. Ellar Coltrane

Ellar Coltrane began acting professionally when he was just six years old. He starred in the movie “Boyhood,” and although just a child, acted off and on while living like most other kids his age. He’s an actor who was cast in the role of one of Barack Obama’s university peers in the biopic titled “Barry.” He also starred alongside Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in a thriller film called “The Circle.” He also appears in a documentary about Richard Linklater titled “Richard Linklater: Dream Is Destiny.” Coltrane has the looks that would be convincing as a younger version of Eddie Money. He’s a talented and veteran actor who would also make a believable portrayal of the great Eddie Money.

3. Chris Colfer

Chris Colfer has experience in both acting and singing. In addition to this, the versatile young professional is also an author. He’s won multiple awards for his acting which include Golden Globe, and People’s Choice. He was also named as Time 100’s inclusion on their list of the 100 most influential people. He also wrote, produced and novelized “Struck by Lightning,” which was his first film released in 2012. He has a good working knowledge of the music business, as well as the experience. We’ve seen evidence that tells us his acting versatility would be a great asset in telling the story of Eddie Money on film. We’d like to see him give us his interpretation of the life of the legendary rocker.

4. Dylan Sprayberry

You might remember Dylan Sprayberry from his most recent appearances in the series “Teen Wolf” in the fourth and fifth season airing in 2015. He also starred in the hit teen series “Glee” as well as “Shuffle” in 2011, “Old Dogs” in 2009, and “Man of Steel” in 2013. He’s a versatile actor but he’s also a musician who knows his way around the stage. We’d like to see what Dylan could do with such an important role because he has the ability to tell stories through his acting, his music and his writing in great depth. He’s capable of giving us a look into the life of the man behind the music.

5. Miles Teller

Miles Teller starred in “Whiplash,” in 2014, alongside of JK Simmons. He also acted beside Nicole Kidman in the movie “Rabbit Hole” as well as the dramatic film “The Spectacular Now,” for which he earned a “Dramatic Special Jury Award” in 2012. Miles was also cast in a version of “Footloose” for the stage, and due to his excellent performance, he was asked to join the cast in a remake on film. Teller has all of the right stuff, including stage performances and acting in front of the camera. When you watch him in action, you’ll know what we mean when we say that he brings a character to life before your very eyes. He somehow lets us in on what’s going on in the mind of the character without the need to do a lot of speaking.

Final thoughts

Miles Teller is our fifth choice to star in a biopic about Eddie Money. He has great potential for delivering high on presenting aspects of his personality and telling his story, but Dylan Sprayberry is also an actor with a great understanding of getting into character. Dylan is our fourth choice, as he also is a versatile actor with a solid musical background. Although not the same genre or style, music is universal and he understands how it speaks to the audience. He has a grasp on the power of music and this is precisely what took Money to the top. Chris Colfer is our third choice with many of the same attributes, but the one thing that sets him apart from the rest is his proven record in acting. Being on Time’s list of the most 100 influential people in the world is no small feat. Ellar Coltrane is another young actor with the confidence and stage presence to make the role believable, but Ansel Elgort has a special charm about him. As a young Eddie Money, we think he would have a huge amount of charisma whether he can actually sing the songs or lip-syncs them. Ansel has the look and physical appearance that is most like Eddie Money and this is why he is our top pick for the part.
