What’s Next for RuPaul’s Drag Race After the Season 11 Finale?

Megan Walsh for the Romper has indicated that it sounds as though there’s no definitive date for the next season of RuPaul’s Drag Race as of yet, but it does seem as though the show will continue since it’s been enjoying a fairly good run throughout the years. After all it is one of the many shows that people have responded to in a positive way and does tend to fit into the current modern era in which the LGBTQ+ crowd and many others are beginning to see more programming designed for their culture. As of the season 11 finale however nothing had been set in stone, which to some folks is kind of odd since season 11 had been announced already by the time season 10 was wrapping up. This might make some folks think that there’s something going on and possibly wrong with the program, but quite honestly this doesn’t seem like the case. If anything it almost feels as though the show’s lack of announcement might have something to do with gauging just how much the show might need to change between seasons to keep the viewers happy and the ratings stable.

As Kayla Blanton of Bustle explains the show does have a lot of plans to pursue other projects and it does sound as though things are progressing nicely in terms of the next season, but for whatever reason VH1 just hasn’t made the full commitment yet. Everyone has their reasons for stalling or holding things off at times and in this case it sounds as though it shouldn’t worry the fans too much since there’s plenty going on that will keep them happy. After all the casting has been done and the planning is underway so if VH1 was to stall for too long it almost feels as though RuPaul might find a way to get the next season up and out anyway. The program has been on too long to just end it in such a manner and there’s no doubt that fans would be more than willing to help out if such a need arose.

The funny thing is that some sites seem to indicate that the next season was approved back in January, and yet VH1 didn’t sign off on it back then. It’s tough to know just what’s going on when someone says one thing and another person says another thing. What does need to be given attention is the fact that the show has been on a roll for a good number of years and so far people haven’t found anything to replace it. The culture that drives this show is something that has been ongoing and has existed for quite some time and while a number of people don’t agree with it there are far more that tend to think it’s not their business or that it’s something to be glorified and fawned over as a beautiful and magnificent thing. Each person is allowed to have their personal feelings about it but quite honestly if it’s not hurting anyone then it’s something that needs to be left to those that happen to enjoy it and get a kick out of the competition.

One can easily admit that there’s a lot that goes into this competition despite the sometimes lackluster performance of some of the contestants. This last part can’t be denied since the lip sync competition is sometimes a bit underwhelming, but the rest of it seems fairly dynamic and impressive enough that it’s worthy of note. A lot of people have either attached themselves or come to view this culture as something that’s rather interesting, vibrant, and very inclusive to those that show the proper respect and allow the contestants to feel that they’re doing the very best that they can. It might seem like kind of an odd show but if you look back in history you’d see that RuPaul has been around for a while and knows very well what it takes to make someone famous. It’s true that not every person that steps on that stage is going to be immediately famous, but another part of the show is to make them feel welcome and validated in their lifestyle choice. For some it’s a chance to get up on stage and show their true beauty to the world, and for others it’s something else. But the important thing is that they’re given the confidence they need not just for the show, but in life as well.

So as far as season 12 goes it does sound as though it’s going to be happening and the show will go on, as always. But in terms of what might change and who might show up during the next season, it would seem as though we’re going to have to wait and see.
