Casting a Hermione Granger Origins Movie

Hermione Granger

Emma Watson captured our hearts when she portrayed one of biggest literary characters of our generation–Hermione Granger. Truth be told, Harry Potter couldn’t and wouldn’t be the hero he turned out to be if not for his friends–especially Hermione. Even Screenrant.com lists reasons why Hermione was actually the true hero. Hermione was more than just the brains of the operation. She was the glue that held the characters together. She was indeed special and much loved by fans from all over the globe. Currently, there are no plans for an origins movie yet. But we can come up with so many reasons why there should be one.

Hermione is a strong heroine and commands attention like any other protagonist. An origins movie about Hermione would have to start off with her life before Hogwarts. It would have to deal with her childhood years and the events in her life that made her the spunky and smart little girl we first met on Sorcerer’s Stone. If we were casting this film, the most important role would be the most difficult to cast. We’ve already got an image of Hermione in our heads because of Emma Watson’s role in the Harry Potter series. It wouldn’t hurt to stick to that image, and there are plenty of options for casting her and other characters that we think should be in the movie as well. Here’s a short list of potential Hermione origins characters and who could play them the best.

1. Hermione Granger — McKenna Grace

12-year old actress McKenna Grace is no newbie. She’s been a professional actor since she was only 6, and she’s been in plenty of movies that have shown her natural skills in acting. She’s just got that feel about her. She sets off a true Hermione vibe. EW.com lists her previous roles, and if she can handle characters such as Captain Marvel and Tonya Harding, we’re sure she can manage Hermione well.

2. Mrs. Granger — Kate Winslet

Our pick for Mrs. Granger is none other than Kate Winslet. We can only imagine what Mrs. Granger must be like. She’s got to be the one that passed on the perfectionist genes, and we could vey well picture Kate in that role. Mrs. Granger will also have Hermione’s nurturing tendencies and the desire to make all things better. It’s a maternal thing, and Kate have done that role once or twice before.

3. Mr. Granger — Ewan McGregor

Warm and loving, Mr. Granger is the pillar of the Granger family. Hermione would’ve inherited her love of books from her dad. Ewan McGregor gives off charm and wit so easily, he’s easily Mr. Granger personified. He can play the quiet father that makes Hermione smile after a bad day. Hermione’s relationship with her father will define her strength–something that will come in handy in Hermione’s future.

4. Best friends — Iain Armitage and Storm Reid

There’s nothing like childhood best friends. They’ll always be part of your life, and they help shape you into who you’d be as a teen. We could only imagine Hermione as having great childhood friends. And as a prequel to the Harry-Hermione-Ron friendship, we could picture McKenna Grace with actors Iain Armitage and Storm Reid. Insider.com predicted that we’d be seeing a lot of Armitage in years to come. The Young Sheldon actor has proven his ability to carry a scene, and so has Storm Reid, who starred in A Wrinkle in Time. We could already picture these three child actors blending together so well on screen.

5. The puppy love — Lonnie Chavis

This Is Us actor Lonnie Chavis is as cute as ever, and onscreen childhood crushes are adorable. If a Hermione movie were ever to happen, Lonnie Chavis would be the perfect crush-interest for McKenna Grace’s Hermione. Chavis would be someone Hermione could look up to–possibly a kid that’s just as smart and book savvy as Hermione. Hermione’s puppy love interest could also be one of Hermione’s best friends. It’s all sweet and cute and everything in between.

6. The meanie — Skai Jackson

Talented Disney star Skai Jackson would be perfect as Lonnie Chavis’ older sister in a Hermione film. Of course, given that she’s the older sister, it’s only right that she’s got a mean bone in her body. She might also have a jealousy thing going towards Hermione. Just as this article points out, Skai Jackson has been in the public eye for so long. It’ll be interesting to see her in a fantasy type film for a change.

7. The teacher — Kit Harington

The glasses, the light scruffy beard, the small man bun–Kit Harington’s image is perfect for that modern teacher look. Of course, there won’t be any robes in the muggle world. Kit Harington’s character would be donning a guitar instead. He’s the kind of teacher that will inspire Hermione to learn as much as she can while having fun at the same time. Harington’s character will be quite smart, and Hermione will find that inspiring and challenging.

8. The librarian — Emma Watson

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have the original Hermione cast in an origins Hermione film? Emma Watson would be perfect as a librarian–the one who feeds young, impressionable Hermione with the idea and love of books. The librarian character would challenge Hermione to push herself and encourage her to read about anything and read whenever and wherever she can. It’ll be interesting to see Watson’s character and Harington’s character intertwine at some point. Emma Watson’s presence in a Hermione movie would just tie that movie into a neat little package. She could also be the one to introduce young Hermione to witchcraft and wizardry.

9. The witch — Rosamund Pike

She has a delightful persona on screen, but we all know how great of an actress Rosamund Pike is. She’s fooled us before (remember Gone Girl?), and she can certainly fool us in a Hermione movie. She’d play the ultimate antagonist role of being an illegally practicing witch in the muggle world. She could be school principal, Hermione’s parents’ boss, or even the town mayor. Any position of power would fit this character, and Rosamund Pike would surely do well in portraying it.
