The best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. That’s been Bret ‘the Hitman’ Hart’s theme for decades now and while it’s no longer really applicable to the current setting of the WWE it’s still how a lot of people know him. He’s been one of the hardest-working individuals in the business for so long that not recognizing him seems like a sin to many of the fans and kind of an oversight to anyone that at least knows something about wrestling. It’s especially important at this point as Houston Mitchell of the Los Angeles Times and many others have pointed out that Hart was genuinely attacked by a fan during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony the night before the most current Wrestlemania. Bret Hart has been a part of the WWE for a lot of years now, and it seems high time that his life is finally given the biopic it deserves.
The only question now is who would fit the bill and who could do the best job.
5. Gerard Butler
You might think I’m a bit crazy for this one but Gerard Butler does seem like he could fit the build of the Hitman back in the day and his acting talents are on par enough that he could make it work. The only deciding factor might be that he’s starting to get a bit old and it might not work out quite as well. He’d definitely be on the list it would seem since it does have to be said that he’s got the athleticism required for the part and the ability to bring the kind of charisma and machismo that Hart has been known for in the business for so long. If nothing else that attitude would be the one prized part of the Hitman that might be enough to get anyone selected.
4. Christian Bale
Bale knows how to bulk up, there’s no doubt of this since he’s done it before in accordance to a few roles. So the physical appearance wouldn’t be an issue and even better the accent would be an issue since he knows how to mask it quite well considering that he’s done it for so many of his movies. In fact it’s safe to agree with Kylie Anderson of 22 Words that a lot of people didn’t know he had a British accent until he spoke up at the Golden Globes at one point and it simply came out. People were actually stunned since he’s been able to sound like whoever he needs to when he’s in a movie.
3. Sam Worthington
You might say that the Avatar sequels are going to keep Sam’s career going but then you’d be banking pretty heavily on the idea that they’re going to be as big as the original. Sam might actually need something else to push his career up and over the hump now and again and this could be that something. He’s still a very noted and popular actor but it seems as though he drops off the map occasionally every so often and needs something really noteworthy to bring him back. While the Avatar movies are still on their way, eventually, this is something that could possibly bring him back into the public eye in a big way.
2. Adam Driver
This almost seems like a hit or miss choice since Adam is a great actor and can play just about any part. He’s also pretty buff and could nail that part without fail. But it might be that some folks think that Driver is a lot taller than Hart. The truth of it is that he’s only two inches taller, as Hart is still a fairly big guy at six feet tall, and in his younger years he was pretty bulked up. So it does seem as though Driver could play this role without a lot of difficult and possibly with all the swagger that Hart had back in the day. One has to think though that in terms of looks, trying to find Bret’s exact match would be dang near impossible.
1. Chris Evans
Now that it’s pretty well established that his time with the MCU is done and over with it would seem that Evans needs something else to move onto. While it’s true that we’ve never really seen him with the kind of look that Hart has rocked for so long it might be an interesting switch from the clean cut appearance that Evans has almost always had. Whether with a beard or shaved, Chris has always had a very professional look, even when he was in The Losers. But putting him in a getup like this might switch it up just enough to let him diversify his acting abilities. It couldn’t hurt to try.
This movie needs to be made though.
