10 Things You Didn’t Know About Fast Layne

Fast Layne is a children’s TV show made for the Disney Channel that debuted in February 2019. The series follows the adventures of a young girl, Layne Reed, and her car that is able to talk and think for itself. Here are ten things about the show that you may not know.

1. It Is Loosely Based On Herbie

The idea of a Herbie reboot has been discussed by Disney for a number of years. However, no real plans ever made it into the pipeline. Although a comparison can be drawn between the two shows due to the premise of a girl driving a talking car, Fast Layne has no affiliation to Herbie and is a stand alone project.

2. The Lead Role Is Played By Sophie Pollono

This is her first leading role but she has had experience in other shows. She is best known for her role as Delia Abbot in The Young And The Restless. The character of Layne is twelve years old in the show and Sophie herself was twelve when the show was filmed.

3. The Series Was Created By Travis Braun

Travis Braun has worked on several other projects for Disney before this one including Vampirina and Muppet Babies. As well as coming up with the concept of the show he also acts as the executive producer. He has recently signed an overall deal with Disney which will see him producing more live action and animated shows across all the Disney channels.

4. His Childhood Provided The Inspiration For VIN

Travis is the younger brother of racing driver Colin Braun. He grew up around cars and some of these were the inspiration for VIN. He grew up helping to repair the karts that Colin raced in and also analysed the data from trial races. All of this meant he knew exactly what he wanted the car VIN to be.

5. It Was Filmed In Maple Ridge, Canada

The series was filmed entirely in the town of Maple Ridge in British Columbia. There was some disagreement between the people of the town and the production crew while filming was taking place. These disagreements mostly occurred due to road closures that were in place during filming meaning some parts of the town were inaccessible to residents.

6. Filming Only Took A Few Months

The filming of the series began in February 2018 and was completed by April of the same year. Despite the relatively quick turnaround it still took a further twelve months since filming began for the show to start to air on TV. The length of time that any second season would take to film is likely to be the same unless the number of episodes is increased.

7. Nate Torrence Is The Voice Of VIN

The voice of VIN is provided by actor Nate Torrence. He has done a lot of other voice work in the past for both TV and film. Fans of Disney may recognise his voice from the film Zootropolis where he voiced the character of Clawhauser. He is best known for his role as Devon in She’s Out of My League.

8. There Are Eight Episodes In Season One

There has only been one season of the show made so far but all eight episodes have been filmed. It is likely that Disney want to see the viewing figures for the first season before they make any decision about renewing the series. If a second season is ordered then it may debut around the same time next year.

9. The Theme Song Is Performed By Rayla

The theme song of the show is called Just Wanna Go and is performed by Rayla. The song is available to purchase and a music video has also been made to accompany the song. It can also be streamed on services such as Spotify and Amazon Music.

10. It Premiered Before The Live Action Kim Possible Movie

The live action Kim Possible movie is something that has been highly anticipated and so premiering Fast Layne before this movie was a good move by Disney. It gave people a reason to tune into the channel before the Kim Possible film started and it also raised the profile of Fast Layne. After the premiere which was on a Friday it moved into a regular Sunday evening slot.
