The Five Best Julie Andrews Movies of Her Career

You might think that the impressive list of awards that Julie Andrews has won during her career would be impressive enough but she’s also become something of a legend and has been an author of children’s stories as well. But to be perfectly honest Julia was one of those folks that was born with the kind of talent that many people covet and thankfully it was noticed and nurtured throughout her life. This no doubt led to the life she’s been living for so long and the accomplishments she’s achieved, but one can also state that she’s been a diligent and very hard-working woman throughout most if not all of her career. While singing and acting might come naturally to her there is still something to be said for her dedication and adherence to the craft that has helped to make her such a well-known legend.

Here are five of Julie’s best movies.

5. Shrek 2

In the first movie we got to meet Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey and that seemed to be enough for the time being since they carried the movie pretty well. But one almost had to expect that since Fiona was a princess that we’d get to meet her royal parents eventually. Obviously as it turns out they were less than pleased to find out that their daughter had turned into an ogre permanently and they now had a son-in-law that was also an ogre. Things didn’t start off too well between Shrek and the royals, though the queen was a lot more understanding than the king, who wanted his daughter happy, but also reverted back to her human form.

4. The Princess Diaries

This is one of the most poignant ugly duckling stories that has come across the big screen in a long time it feels like since Mia was without a doubt one of the most hopeless cases when it came to being popular or even noticeable to her peers. But when it turns out that she has royal blood and is in line for the crown things take a huge turn, but not exactly for the better. As much as Queen Clarisse wants her granddaughter to learn etiquette and the ins and outs of the royal court, she ends up learning from Mia how to be fun and just cut loose now and again while interacting with the general public.

3. Torn Curtain

The lengths to which some people in government have gone to hide secrets and to reveal secrets of their enemies has been theorized and discussed repeatedly throughout the years, but in movies it takes on a very thrilling look as the idea of getting away after revealing said secrets is usually a matter of life or death. When Armstrong reveals himself to be a double agent to Sherman they have to be careful about who they trust and where they go in order to avoid being captured. When the final moment comes when one of those seeking to out them points out their hiding place it’s shown that they’ve already made their escape.

2. The Sound of Music

It’s not in any way difficult to say that this is one of the most beloved movies of all time since quite honestly there are many upon many people that have come to adore it and the story and the music that seem to go so well together. Maria’s life is a bit difficult in that she wants only to make the lives of the children a little more engaging and would love to see the Captain interact with his children more. But when the Captain finally becomes affectionate the entire family is suddenly put at risk when he is required to become a part of the Nazi party, which he has no love or support for. Thankfully the kindness of those that care about the family is enough to help them get away and find a new life in Switzerland.

1. Mary Poppins

She’s been many people’s favorite nanny for years and was someone that was simply magical in more than one way as it was seen on film. The main point of the story however seems to be debated still to this day as to who she was really there to help. The whole idea of her being there for the children was of course what many people expected and would hold to throughout much of their lives, but some people insist that she was there to help the adults. In truth it’s more likely that she was there for the entire family when they were in need, and as it goes she would be gone once they no longer needed her.

Its amusing to hear that Julie actually didn’t want in on the new Mary Poppins sequel so that Emily Blunt could shine as the star. It’s also an easy sentiment to respect.
