Three of the Most Disappointing General Hospital Story Lines

General Hospital fans have been watching their favorite characters live their lives for decades now, but that doesn’t mean that things are always good. While the drama is always exciting, sometimes the story lines fail to excite. It’s like the writers either hit things so hard right on the head and they kill it, or they just miss it entirely and we are all left wondering what the heck is going on. Fortunately, there always seem to be more good story lines than there do bad ones, but there are a few that are more than a little disappointing. In fact, we can pull a few right out of the tops of our heads right now that disappoint us so much we cannot even get over it. And here you go.

Charlotte and Lulu

When this little girl showed up in town, there was some serious question about her parentage. We all knew that her mother was Claudette, even though she was a hot mess in every which way. But what about her father? There was a big question about that one, including whether it was Nathan who was her father or not. And that was not good news for Maxie and Nathan and their marriage, but that was all put to bed when we found out that not only was he not the father of this little girl, Valentin Cassadine was the biological father of this child and Lulu was the mother. And that was a mystery to all of us when we found out that Claudette was only a surrogate mother. The little girl was so confused, her heart entirely broken, and nothing about this worked for us.

The Vampires

There is a lot we are willing to take as fact in the soaps. We know that most people don’t die. We know you can actually die right in front of people and be brought back to life by some form of whatever, and we know that a mother and a child can work so hard to destroy one another that it’s not even funny. But we do draw the line at vampires. That’s an entirely differently kind of situation. We love a good vampire story, but we do not think it’s the kind of story that has any place on daytime television, and that’s why seeing them around here was beyond questionable. When the writers decided that Port Charles was clearly in need of a vampire or two, they brought a few out to make it all seem good, but it really only all seemed a little dumb.

And that’s just that. The entire storyline was one that happened, went away, and then came back a decade later. It didn’t work the first time, and it really, really didn’t work the second time. And we can only hope that the writers do not decide they can redo this at some point in their lives. This is not something we can handle — and we are begging them not to do this again.

The OLTL Drama

When “One Life to Live” was cancelled, the show brought over some of the big characters to give them a home. They were their old characters in a new setting, and we all kind of loved that and how it all worked out for us, but then the network had some issues, legally they couldn’t use these characters, and suddenly they were all out of a job — again. So that was a huge bummer. When GH decided to give all the OLTL characters a brand-new makeover, it was just hard to watch. One day they were their old OLTL characters making their way into Port Charles with some vengeance, and the next day they were entirely new people with the same faces, and it was hard.

It all worked out in the end as they were all given roles that eventually worked, but it was touch and go at the time. It was confusing. But watching Silas Clay and Franco and Kiki make their own storylines unique enough to work here is good. They’ve been able to pull it off, but there were a few months — a year even — when we all wondered why we were going through this.
