It’s been interesting to see how vampire movies have evolved throughout the years, especially considering how they started in the first place. So many changes have taken place with this particular movie monster that sometimes it’s a bit hard to recognize them on screen until the point is made firmly and without any equivocation. Yet for all that some vampire movies are still considered to be the favorites of those that find them as something to latch onto and fully enjoy. After all the whole craze about vampires has a lot to do with their seductive nature and their ability to charm those that they find desirable. The whole idea of ripping apart their enemies kind of faded throughout the years, though it’s still a favored quality of those fans that love to see the gallons of blood being spilled by these creatures of the night.
Here are a few of the best vampire films from the 2000s.
5. Twilight
You had to know that this film would make the list, after all it was considered to be one of the hottest series when it first came out and it spread like wildfire as the series continued. Adolescent girls and even adult women found this movie to be positively enchanting despite the fact that the monsters were more or less killers at their very core wrapped in a very seductive and charming facade that made them more alluring to those around them. The whole teenage angst thing however soured the film for a lot of people while it increased the pull for those that found it simply irresistible.
4. Daybreakers
Some of these films didn’t get a whole lot of love despite the fact that they put forth very good ideas that might not have been given enough follow-through in order to make them into something that might endure in the public eye. Daybreakers does raise an interesting question however of what might happen if the entire planet became populated by vampires and humans were nearly extinct. The farming of humans could only take them so far and then the obvious side effects of being starved out and forced to rely on other methods would begin to take a serious toll on them, not to mention that the few remaining humans might try to fight back.
3. Blade Trinity
Yes, the Blade films got worse as they went on, but the third one at least had a couple of tricks up its sleeve that made it a little more enjoyable than the second movie. Some people didn’t like the fact that Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Beal joined the cast, but in truth it expanded Blade’s world a bit and allowed the scope of the war against the vampires to increase just a bit. And honestly I don’t care what anyone says, the fight between Reynolds and Triple H was simply awesome, though the fight between Blade and Drake could have used some help. And there’s something great about a woman that’s just as tough as the men are.
2. 30 Days of Night
The sheer, unrelenting terror that this film delivered was something that felt like a car rolling downhill with the brake lines cut and essentially useless. Just imagine being in a remote location where egress to the outside world means crossing a frozen wasteland that will kill you just as surely as the creatures that have invaded your town. Plus there’s no allure, no charm, and no seduction going on with these ravenous creatures. They’re in Barrow to hunt, to kill, and to keep killing until their hunger is sated and they disappear once again. If not for a handful of survivors that somehow outwit the death machines on legs they might have succeeded.
1. Underworld
There wasn’t a lot of fanfare around this movie when it first came out and to be honest not a lot of people knew about it. But once the idea of the film came around it started gaining speed and by the time a sequel was announced it had become something that people truly liked. Selene was simply stunning in that she was beautiful, intelligent, and undeniably deadly, while Michael was the kind of guy that might have been passed off as a nobody until it was revealed that he was the link between the lycans and the vampires. As soon as that was discovered one side wanted him and the other wanted him dead simply for being who he was. Once it was discovered that he could be a hybrid however, a mating of the two species, his worth and the need to silence him increased dramatically.
Vampire movies are, quite simply, a delightful treat to watch when they’re done right and when the creatures are given leave to be just as bad as they can be. All the fans and adoration aside, Twilight was deserving of its place on this list largely because it was a teenage version of a vampire flick.
