If you ask Laura Harrier she had a nice, comfortable upbringing that didn’t factor in much the fact that she is from two different worlds in a genetic sense. In fact this hardly ever came up in her life at all and to be honest while she identifies as a black woman she is fully aware and recognizes her heritage from both sides. She’s the kind of young woman that simply wants to be seen as a person and not as an oddity for belonging to two different races thanks to her genetics. With that out of the way she’s also a very driven individual that knows what she wants and is well aware of how to go and get it. Throughout her career so far she’s been on a role since she’s managed to hang in with some of the best up and coming stars and some of those that have been around for a while.
Here are a few things you might not have known about her.
10. She’s biracial.
As you already surmised from the introduction she does belong to two different genetic backgrounds since she has a black father and a white mother. This has never been an issue for her since she’s always been treated like a person and fully accepts who she is and where she comes from.
9. She dropped modeling so that she could go to drama school.
Apparently modeling was supposed to be something that was temporary anyway since she had no long-term plans to continue it once she found what she wanted to do. In many ways it was a stepping stone to an acting career.
8. She’s in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
When people took note of this movie coming out a lot of people initially thought that she was going to be the main love interest of Peter Parker, and she was really, but it was a love that couldn’t be since he had to battle her father, who turned out to be the Vulture. It is kind of amusing to think that her parents in the film were kind of like her parents in real life, only switched, meaning instead of her father being black he was white. It’s just something interesting to point out.
7. She likes playing characters that she can connect with.
For many actors this is something that seems to help them out when it comes to identifying with a character since it’s so much easier to get into the role when they can understand them and therefore slip into the mindset of that particular individual.
6. She made her way to New York when she was 18.
Dedicated and always ready to try something thing new, Laura didn’t really wait until she was fully ready to had to New York, and it seems to have paid off since her move has managed to allow her to create a career that has been taking off left and right throughout the last few years.
5. She’s in Fahrenheit 451.
Imagine the world without books, without the right to read, to write, or to even think for yourself in many ways. This film is disturbing on so many levels, especially to writers since we make our living putting it down in word form for people to read.
4. She started her career in 2013.
She’s still young so she has a lot of time to earn that experience and continued fame as she builds up her resume and strides forward with one role after the next. Not having been in the industry for that long hasn’t hampered her so far, so honestly it seems like we’ll be seeing a lot more of her.
3. She was in the reboot of One Life to Live
This came about when she was still getting started with her career and unfortunately the show didn’t last all that long and she had to move on. But even with that setback she managed to find something to keep her going. She does have a natural charm that allows her to seem very appealing to many individuals when it comes to selecting her for various roles.
2. She has an impressive following on social media.
With some people it’s surprising and with others it’s not. There are various reasons that some people have more followers than others and a lot of it has to do with how active some people are and how good of a PR team they have. It’d be interesting to know just how many actors really spend any amount of time on social media during the day.
1. She’s in BlacKkKlansman.
Just watching people don the hood and uniform of the KKK is enough to get a lot of folks riled up but in this movie the best part is finding out that a black man, along with a white partner, are infiltrating one of the most reviled groups in history to bring them down from within.
Keep an eye on Laura, she seems to be going places.
