General Hospital is a show that’s been around for more than 50 years — a lot more than 50 years to be precise — and that means a lot has happened. Even if you’ve been a dedicated fan for all this time, and you’ve never missed a show, and you’ve kept up with all of it, you probably don’t know all there is to know about the show. There are a few facts you might’ve missed over the years, but we thought we’d bring them to you today. You might not be able to handle what you are going to learn today.
The Time Slot Changed
So, it took Days of Our Lives a staggering 10 years to go from a 30 minute time slot to a full hour, and that is similar to what happened on General Hospital, too. The show began to air in 1963, but it took a lot longer than Days to become a longer show. Days aired in 1965 and got a new time frame of an hour after only 10 years. It took 13 years for GH to get a longer time slot. They began showing the show for a half hour every day, and it took 13 years (until 1976) for the people at ABC to realize that there was more to be had. The show was given an additional 15 minutes, and it was upped to 45. It took another two years after that to get it to an hour.
Bobbie Spencer Was a Playboy Bunny
Okay, okay. Not Bobbie herself. But the actress who plays Bobbie, Jackie Zeman, was a Playboy bunny in the 1970s. She as a bunny in the NY Playboy Club in 1972. We don’t know how long she did the job, how long it lasted, what happened, or what was going on with them, but we do know that she is gorgeous, so we can totally see her in the role.
The Famous Front Gates
You know this show is all about a hospital and what goes on in there, even if there seems to be more going on outside the gates of the hospital these days. There is a lot to be said about all of this, and we think that it means something very special. But the real story here is where the front gates were shot. This is clearly not a real hospital, but it was the gates of the USC Medical Center used to shoot the opening scenes and the opening gates of the grounds. It’s a famous landmark, and people have been traveling there for many years to spend time getting a photo in front of the gates.
Laura Was A Murderer at 16
It’s hard to believe she is a killer, but she’s done her fair share of life taking over the years. She’s got her own situation to control and handle, but she made her very first kill when she was a young teen. You see, it was back in those days that her own mother shared a boyfriend with her. Not because they wanted to share this man, of course. He was her mother’s lover and her own, and he kept that a secret. Laura was not happy about this entire situation, so she pushed the man down the stairs and ended his life. It was something else.
Emily was Adopted
You see, it’s not always easy to remember that this was her life. She was a sweet girl, and it was her death that caused the lovely Jason to change so much in a way. But her own real mother — well, her television mother — died of breast cancer, and this caused her to become an orphan. The Quartermaine’s decided to adopt her and make her their own. She grew up in their house and with their life and she was their family. It’s easy to forget that little fact, and some people don’t even know it’s a fact in the reality of the show. If you weren’t watching her entire life. you wouldn’t know she was not their biological daughter. They all did a wonderful job with her story line, and it was so sweet.
