Depending on your point of view Tommy Wiseau is either a genius or a joke. His one surprising hit, The Room, can’t rightfully be called a blockbuster or even a cult classic since the buzz around it has died down at this point and the movie has slipped back into faint obscurity. If he comes forth again it will likely be with something similar and with the kind of acting that makes a lot of people cringe as they wonder why he thinks he’s all that great. It could be possible that he might learn one day and be someone worth watching, but at the moment he’s got a lot of confidence but little if any real reason for it.
That might seem cruel but really, the guy tends to think in grandiose terms that are far beyond his ability.
10. My take on it, like a filmmaker or actor, is if you have much more colors within your creation, eventually people will appreciate what you’re doing, and the other stuff is secondary, like critiques or even awards or anything else, as long as people enjoy it.
The trick is however that you have to get people to enjoy it first, as they might act as a buffer for the critics. Without people to enjoy a movie then the critics are going to be felt full force.
9. I inspire myself.
You can simply see Tommy saying this without anything other than total pride in himself which is kind of confusing since he hasn’t done much to this point.
8. I’m not a god, I’m just a simple guy.
Again, Wiseau’s sense of confidence is never lacking, which is kind of inspiring in a way. It would be more so if he came out with a truly great movie.
7. When people sometimes misquote me, I don’t know if they understand what I’m saying.
Usually if people misquote him it’s because he’s saying something that they don’t understand or simply doesn’t make a lot of sense in the first place. But yes, comprehension would be nice when quoting someone.
6. I’m satisfied with the way ‘The Room’ turned out, and I don’t want to change anything.
Really? There are so many things to say about this, but it’s better to not say anything TOO negative.
5. I’m not here to criticize anyone.
That’s kind of hard to believe after seeing the behind the scenes shots of The Room and how he reacts to people.
4. I studied movies for many years, but I am professionally an actor because I, my background is actually a stage actor and acting.
Yeah, he might need to go back to school for a bit and brush up on those lessons.
3. Express yourself, don’t hurt yourself.
This almost sounds like a Madonna lyric in some way.
2. As a filmmaker and an actor, my job is to react towards people, but I want a reaction from them.
That is the job of a director in fact, to get a reaction, but either he’s not following his own words or he’s too caught up in something else to worry over it.
1. ‘The Room’ is relationships. The room is you and me and everyone in America. That’s basically what ‘The Room’ is.
There were relationships in the room, but they really didn’t seem like anything that regular folks would look at as real world interactions.
Tommy Wiseau might have a prayer of doing something great, but it hasn’t happened quite yet.

you seem like a jerk. Tommy is very inspiring for the simple fact that he continued to follow his dreams when no one else saw his vision. If you don’t like tommy’s work so much why’d you take the time to write an article about it?
That’s actually simpler than figuring out why people like him. I was assigned to the article and I gave an honest opinion. If you don’t enjoy it then you are always free to leave a comment, as you’ve done thankfully, and move on. We have different opinions of the man, and while he might have a dream, it appears that he still needs a great deal of clarity, and talent. Thank you though for your input.
